The Little Girl Who Lit the Bayonne Bridge with Patriotic LED Lights

In 2002, right after 9/11, eight-year-old Veronica Granite from New Jersey began a petition drive to illuminate her hometown bridge with red, white and blue lights. She had recently seen tricolor lighting atop the Empire State Building during a visit to Liberty State Park and thought the Bayonne Bridge should be similarly decorated in patriotic lights. Wellypower consolidated revenues for 3Q10 totaled NT$2.27 billion

Recently, CCFL lighting maker Wellypower Optronics’3Q10 revenues made a new record. The consolidated total revenues went up NT$2.27 billion, gross profit was NT$270 million with a 12% gross margin. Also, pure income reached NT$171 million (US$5.53 million), up 694% sequentially, EPS was NT$1.01, and operating incomer was NT$142 million.

Toshiba, Panasonic to Spread Straight Tube LED Lamps in Japanese Market

Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corp and Panasonic Corp are said to commercialize their straight tube LED lamps to replace fluorescent lamps within 2010. Toshiba Lighting & Technology plans to launch two types of straight tube LED lamps, whose brightnesses are equivalent to those of 20W and 40W fluorescent lamps, respectively, within 2010.   Also,Panasonic  intends to commercialize its straight tube LED lamps within 2010.

The United States has first OLED pilot manufacturing site

Recently, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reported that Canandaigua in New York was the first OLED pilot manufacturing site in USA. The pilot line occupied 140,000-square-foot area. The Universal Display Corporation (UDC) who had been given $4 million by DOE was a member of the OLED pilot project. Also, UDC, MBT, New York’s Smart System Technology & Commercialization Center (STC) were partners on the project, which leverages an $11.5 million investment from MBT, state government incentives available through the STC, and municipal tax credits.

Researchers Developed Flexible LED Sheets For Glowing Tattoos

The research which are comprise of John Rogers from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), as well as scientists from China, Singapore and South Korea, Chemistry World reports, have jointly developed flexible sheets of LED devices, that can be safely inserted under the skin to produce glowing tattoos. In order to make the LED arrays flexible, the team selected to use a low cost, flexible, biocompatible polymer as a substrate. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) seemed like an obvious choice.

TESS changes its company name to Top Energy Saving System Corp.

TESS, a Taiwan-based LED lighting leading brand, changed its company name from “topco energy saving system corp.” to “Top Energy Saving System Corp.” As TESS is planning an IPO in Taiwan this year, this name change is carried out in order to avoid public confusion between TESS and other similar company names. The brand name, TESS, remains the same. The new company name, Top Energy Saving System Corp., has been changed under the approval of at the shareholder meeting.

It is reported that Taiwan and China vendors will test LED street lamps in Xiamen, Fujian Province and Guangzhou, by cross-strait standards for LED street lighting. Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) will assist to choose test sites, and two test sites have chosen, including Xiamen's Huoju Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone and line one of Guangzhou's Metro subway system.

BenQ Launch New 24" LED Monitors Eyes On Australia Market

Taiwan BenQ launched three new 24” LED backlight monitors including a 3D model, aiming at the models at the home, business and gaming markets in Australia. This 120 Hz monitor outputs two sets of images at 6Hz which are then synchronised using 3D glasses. Native resolution is 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resulting in most output files being supported. The monitor that comes with a solid stand that slides up and down on a pole allows the display screen to be easily adjusted to a suitable height.
