Prices of LED Light Bulbs Fell in October Ahead of Singles’ Day in China, LEDinside Reports

After being steady for two consecutive months, prices of LED light bulbs began to drop noticeably in China during October, according to LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. Branded light bulb vendors operating in the Chinese market begin promotional pricing much earlier before Singles’ Day on November 11.   “Compared with the prior month, 40- and 60-watt equivalent LED light bulbs both saw a decline of 0.6% in their global average selling prices in October,” said LEDinside Allen Yu. “The 40-watt equivalent LED light bulbs arrived at US$9.2, while the 60-watt came to US$12.6.”

The latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds that LED chip suppliers raised their prices in August, slowing down the price decline for end products. Thus, prices of LED light bulbs will be on a stable trend in the short term.    “Compared with July, the global average sales price (ASP) of 40-watt equivalent LED light bulbs fell just 0.4% in August to US$9.4,” said LEDinside analyst Allen Yu. “The global ASP of 60-watt equivalent LED light bulbs also dropped 0.3% to US$12.8.”

LEDinside:Seasonality Kept Prices of LED Light Bulbs on a Downtrend in July

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports the global average sales prices of 40-watt and 60-watt equivalent LED light bulbs in July fell 0.7% and 0.6% versus the prior month, respectively, to US$9.5 and US$12.9.   “July was the start of the traditional off season for the LED industry,” said LEDinside analyst Allen Yu. “Furthermore, the economic conditions in Europe and the U.S. remained weak, so the demand rebound that occurred in the lighting market was limited to just the second quarter. Retail prices of LED light bulbs slid entering the third quarter, and some products suffered larger price drops on account of promotional activities.”

 LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports that the global average sales price (ASP) of 40-watt  equivalent LED light bulb stood at US$9.6 in May, translating to a monthly drop of 1.6%. The global ASP of 60-watt equivalent LED light bulbs in same month also fell 1.4% compared with April to US$12.9.   LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said the LED industry was showing signs of rebound in the second quarter. In the chip market, the downtrend came to an end and some product prices even went up. The prices of LED light bulbs also slowed down their decline.

The global average sales price (ASP) of 40W-equivalent (equiv.) LED light bulbs fell 5.9% in April compared with the prior month, arriving at US$9.7, while the ASP of 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs fell 7.2% to US$13.1. LED light bulb prices in China have been on a downtrend because of sales activities related to the Chinese Labor Day holiday period, said Allen Yu, analyst for LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. Gradual Upticks in Market Demands Led to Stable LED Bulb Prices in February, says LEDinside

 The latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds that the global average price of 40W-equivalent (equiv.) LED light bulbs arrived at US$10.2 in February, down 0.6% from the prior month. The global average price of 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs also fell 0.5% monthly to US$14 in February.   “Though some parts of the U.S. and European markets saw price decline, the prices of LED light bulbs remained mostly constant through February due to stable demand worldwide,” said LEDinside analyst Allen Yu. Prices also stayed relatively unchanged in China as trading fell during the Chinese New Year holidays. On the whole, the outlook of the LED industry is still gloomy and there is no sign of market demand picking up quickly. Thus, prices of LED light bulbs worldwide will stay on a gradual downtrend.   The LED package market in China witnessed only slight price fluctuations during February because of the holiday season. With the exception of 2825 LED products, other LED packages did not experience a notable price decline.

LED Bulb Promotions Triggered Falling Prices in Europe and U.S. in January, Said LEDinside

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports that both the 40W-equivalent (equiv.) and 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs suffered decline in their global average retail prices in January. The price of the 40W-equiv. dropped 3.3% from December to US$10.3, while the price of the 60W-equiv. ended up at US$14.1, amounting to a 2.5% monthly decline.   LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said that U.S. and European lighting vendors maintained their promotional pricing through the turn of the year in order to boost sales, so some products in those markets experienced significant price declines. In China, prices of LED light bulbs fell at a slower pace in January compared with the sharp drops in November and December of last year. Prices of most products have stabilized as many local lighting vendors are shutting down earlier for the Chinese New Year holidays. In Asia’s other regional markets, prices will remain in a downtrend. The LED package market in China is also seeing a slowdown in trading as the country prepares for the upcoming holiday season. Some LED packages experienced sharper price drops in January.

LEDinside: Singles Day Sales Pushed Down November LED Light Bulb Prices in China

The latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds that the global average price of 40W LED replacement light bulbs fell 3.4% monthly to US$10.8 in November, while the 60W counterparts saw a 3% drop to US$14.6. LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said that the price decline for LED lighting products in November was more significant in China because of online promotional activities during the Singles Day sales. In the European and the U.S. markets, prices returned to downtrend during the same month after experiencing an uptick in October. As for China’s LED package market, demand has been picking up compared with the third quarter but still lags far behind expectations. Currently, the downtrend in the Chinese package market is caused mainly by the decline of mid- and high-power LED package products. The room for further price reduction is relatively smaller for standard LED package products.

According to the latest report by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, the global average price of 40W LED replacement light bulbs rose 2.8% monthly to US$11.1 in October, while the 60W replacement bulbs rose 3.5% to US$15. LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said that vendors in the U.S. and Europe have called a truce in their price war after three consecutive quarters of downtrend. Prices of some promoted products thus saw noticeable rebound in the first half of October. LEDinside also reports that the Chinese LED package market saw prices falling in same month despite a demand upturn in the TV backlight application.

LED package prices continued to fall in the second quarter, according to the latest price report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. Compared with the prior quarter, the average LED price for lighting application products has fallen by 1~9%, excluding the package 2835 LEDs. Since the 2835 LED products are mainstream products in China’s lighting market, their average price decline has reached 10~17%, more severe than products of other package types. For backlight LED package products, average prices dropped by 3~6% during the second quarter. Price competition in the direct-type LED backlight market remains fiercest this year compared to other LED packages market.

Mid-power LED shortages eased in 3Q13, due to increasing LED suppliers, according to LEDinside, an LED research division of international research organization TrendForce. High-power LED prices dropped in 3Q as outdoor lighting demands and construction bidding projects fell below market expectations in 2Q, and impacts from advances of mid-power LEDs , such as 5630 package (PKG) and 3030 PKG threatens the high-powered LED market share. Both uncertainty surrounding China’s new energy-saving appliance subsidies and high inventory levels in distribution channels have caused the LED price for TV application to drop. However, LED for mobile applications have a positive 3Q outlook due to increasing smartphone shipments and introduction of two in one package.
