Although the development of LED street lamps is not as fast as expected, it still embraces a bright future. Optimistic about the outlook that LED street lamps are to replace conventional ones, LED enterprises are rushing to invest in LED street lamp R&D. Currently, there are over a hundred companies that launched LED street lamps, but most of them have not realized mass production. In contrast to the enthusiasm of LED street lamp makers, China's LED street lamp market hasn't taken off yet in 2009.

Sharp Corp recently released 10 models of LED street lamps which are designed with lenses for widening the illumination area, with one of the models equipped with solar battery.

Global LED street lamps shipments are estimated to grow 224% to 1.46 million units in 2009, according to Taiwan's Photonics Industry & Technology Development Association (PIDA). PIDA reports that the total revenue from the increased number of LED street lamps ordered worldwide will double instead of tripling to US$816 million, a rise of about 99%. This means that the price charged for LED street lamps will go down somewhat in 2009.  

Microsolar Corp. provides a copper-aluminum bonding Service and products. With the state-of-the-art technology called copper-aluminum bonding, Microsolar's LED lamps are allowed to input over 1.5Amp current into a 40milx40mil single chip with over 250 lm brightness.

The residential zone, "Azabu no Oka," is located in Miyoshicho, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and developed by Toyota Smile Life Inc. The roads and pathways in the zone, which has 204 housing plots, will be illuminated by LED lamps. It will take some time before the entire subdivision is completed, but LED lamps have been used since the start of the project.
