Chief among the inventions is an LED light with a thin butterfly wing-style film – The Air – a circle of light that uses LED lights along its outside rim. Future Lighting Solutions Aids Development of New LED Train Lights

It’s reported that Future Lighting Solutions has provided key technical design assistance for new energy-saving LED light fixtures unveiled last month on the Hong Kong MTR (Mass Transit Railway). The new fixtures, each comprised of 32 high-powered LEDs, are designed to reduce energy consumption on the city’s trains, extend bulb life to lower replacement costs, and provide more natural lighting than conventional fluorescent tubing for commuter comfort.

Ruud Lighting cuts jobs; LED division cushions blow

Ruud Lighting has laid off about 50 of its nearly 600 employees. Company President and Chief Executive Officer Alan Ruud says the collapse of the construction industry forced the actions. He says the company is restructuring and the layoffs are considered permanent. The privately owned Ruud Lighting, 9201 Highway 20, makes lighting fixtures for commercial, industrial, institutional and residential settings. The dearth of construction work during the recession has sapped sales, Ruud says.

Rohm ambitiously to enter LED lighting market

Japanese component manufacturer Rohm Semiconductor will begin selling LED-based lighting fixtures for offices and commercial facilities in March, according to a recent report. It’s disclosed that the company will sell five types of LED light fixtures, each shaped like an incandescent or fluorescent light and containing several hundred of Rohm's 1-3 mm sq. LED chips. The company had prototype versions of the fixtures on its booth at the Electronica tradeshow in November 2008 (see photo).

Nexxus Lighting completes a LED lighting project

Nexxus Lighting, Inc. has completed an extensive lighting project as part of the iconic Fontainebleau® Miami Beach $1 billion renovation. Nexxus Lighting’s LED light fixtures were used to put the "blue” in the Fontainebleau's signature Bleau bar by creating a dynamic effect within the bar’s translucent floor. Nexxus Lighting’s Fiber Optic solutions were also used to create a back-lit effect on glass panels throughout the hotel’s main lobby and entrance.
