Smart Streetlight Projects in Sunshine Coast and Chicago

British smart city applications provider Telensa has announced that the company was selected by Sunshine Coast Council to install its intelligent street lighting system in the Maroochydore City Center for a 24 month pilot smart city project. Meanwhile, in Chicago, 76,000 LED smart streetlights were installed as part of the city’s four-year modernization program.

City of Chicago Contracts with Ameresco to Modernize and Connect Largest City–Led Wireless Smart Street Lighting Project in the U.S., Utilizing Silver Spring Networks’ Platform

Ameresco, Inc., a leading energy efficiency and renewable energy company, today announced it has contracted with the City of Chicago for the City’s comprehensive Smart Street Lighting Project to modernize its infrastructure. Working with Silver Spring Networks, Inc., a leading networking platform and solutions provider for the Internet of Important ThingsTM, the project is believed to be the largest city-led wireless smart street light program in the U.S., and will connect more than 250,000 street light fixtures across Chicago.

Chicago to Replace 270,000 High Pressure Sodium Lights by 2017

Mayor Emanuel has announced that the City is conducting a public demonstration of next-generation streetlights in seven neighborhoods as part of the Chicago Smart Lighting Project, which will upgrade streetlights across the city. Residents are being asked to provide feedback on the new lighting, which represents the latest advances in lighting technology, through the end of the year.

Chicago Mayor Announces Plans to Modernize City Lighting

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Infrastructure Trust (CIT) today released a Request for Information (RFI) for the Chicago Smart Lighting Project, which seeks to update the City of Chicago’s electric lighting infrastructure. The goal of the Smart Lighting Project is to transition the City’s and Parks’ lighting to LED technology and to replace outdated infrastructure to achieve efficiencies, cost savings, and improved performance. A large-scale conversion to more environmentally friendly LED technology will reduce electricity use and utility costs. This overhaul of City lighting fixtures and Chicago Park District pathway lighting will be financed through cost savings and potentially, new revenue sources that do not include additional taxpayer funds.

ComEd Launches LED Streelights Pilot Project in Chicago
