Anticipation of Chinese Labor Day Sales Caused Prices of LED Light Bulbs to Drop Significantly in April, Says LEDinside

The global average sales price (ASP) of 40W-equivalent (equiv.) LED light bulbs fell 5.9% in April compared with the prior month, arriving at US$9.7, while the ASP of 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs fell 7.2% to US$13.1. LED light bulb prices in China have been on a downtrend because of sales activities related to the Chinese Labor Day holiday period, said Allen Yu, analyst for LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. ASPs of LED light bulbs in other Asian regional markets have also dropped due to promotional pricing of some newly arrived products. Prices have also kept falling in Europe and the U.S.

Nichia Defends Top LED Package Revenue Title in 2015 Despite Market Slump, Says LEDinside

Fierce competition caused major shifts in the global LED package revenue ranking for 2015, according to LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. Nichia remained the leader, followed closely by OSRAM Opto and Lumileds. Samsung LED and other South Korean manufacturers suffered revenue declines due to the price war and the contraction of LED backlight market. By undercutting each other, most manufacturers ended up with lower revenues last year. Some companies’ revenues also decreased when measured in U.S. dollars due to the dollar’s appreciation.

LEDinside Reports Global LED Market Posts First YoY Decline in 2015

The latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds the total value of the global LED market (include both visible and non-visible LED products) arrived at US$14.32 billion in 2015, representing YoY growth of -3%. The market witnessed its first annual decline in value last year mainly because of the price war among the LED manufacturers, with the ASPs of some mainstream LED packages suffering a drop of 40% or more compared with 2014. Gradual Upticks in Market Demands Led to Stable LED Bulb Prices in February, says LEDinside

 The latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds that the global average price of 40W-equivalent (equiv.) LED light bulbs arrived at US$10.2 in February, down 0.6% from the prior month. The global average price of 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs also fell 0.5% monthly to US$14 in February.   “Though some parts of the U.S. and European markets saw price decline, the prices of LED light bulbs remained mostly constant through February due to stable demand worldwide,” said LEDinside analyst Allen Yu. Prices also stayed relatively unchanged in China as trading fell during the Chinese New Year holidays. On the whole, the outlook of the LED industry is still gloomy and there is no sign of market demand picking up quickly. Thus, prices of LED light bulbs worldwide will stay on a gradual downtrend.   The LED package market in China witnessed only slight price fluctuations during February because of the holiday season. With the exception of 2825 LED products, other LED packages did not experience a notable price decline.

LED Bulb Promotions Triggered Falling Prices in Europe and U.S. in January, Said LEDinside

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports that both the 40W-equivalent (equiv.) and 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs suffered decline in their global average retail prices in January. The price of the 40W-equiv. dropped 3.3% from December to US$10.3, while the price of the 60W-equiv. ended up at US$14.1, amounting to a 2.5% monthly decline.   LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said that U.S. and European lighting vendors maintained their promotional pricing through the turn of the year in order to boost sales, so some products in those markets experienced significant price declines. In China, prices of LED light bulbs fell at a slower pace in January compared with the sharp drops in November and December of last year. Prices of most products have stabilized as many local lighting vendors are shutting down earlier for the Chinese New Year holidays. In Asia’s other regional markets, prices will remain in a downtrend. The LED package market in China is also seeing a slowdown in trading as the country prepares for the upcoming holiday season. Some LED packages experienced sharper price drops in January.

In the Lighting Solutions & Systems (LSS) segment, Osram will expand its product portfolio for Smart Cities and Smart Buildings applications in the years to come, thus taking account of rising urbanization.
