ANC Sports Expands Partnership with Penn State University

ANC Sports Enterprises has completed the installation of two new Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision video screens at Penn State University’s Rec Hall, home of the Nittany Lion gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling teams. Previously, ANC installed LED systems at the University’s Beaver Stadium and the Bryce Jordan Center.

The new video boards, measure 25 feet, 6 inches by 10 feet 6, inches and have 250,000 pixels were utilized to highlight President Obama’s speech on Thursday, February 3rd in Rec Hall about energy conservation. The displays will feature dynamic animations, team logos, crowd prompts, animated team introductions, student athlete videos and real-time statistics.

“The biggest difference I think fans will see is image quality,” said Jim Nachtman, the university’s director of broadcast operations. “We will use dynamic video content wherever we can, but as far as being able to see crystal-clear stats and scoring, that’s going to be the most glaring, obvious improvement.”

In addition to Penn State athletics, Rec Hall is also home to the 2011 Men's Volleyball NCAA Championship. Penn State’s Men’s Volleyball team is ranked ninth while the University’s women’s team has won the last four National Championships. The volleyball squads complement the Men's Gymnastics team which is ranked fifth and the women's team which is currently ranked 23rd, helping make Rec Hall one of the premier venues in college athletics.

Penn State’s Rec Hall is one of four new college venues which have added ANC technology applications during the 2010-11 scholastic calendar year, including Baylor University’s Ferrel Center, University of Pennsylvania’s historic Palestra, and University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena. ANC also completed an LED ribbon and center-hung scoreboard renovation at Xavier University’s Cintas Center prior to the start of classes in August, 2010.

“ANC’s state-of-art signage systems create an energetic event atmosphere which is popular among students, alumni and fans in the college sports environment,” said Jerry Cifarelli, president and chief executive officer of ANC Sports Enterprises. “Based on new products and enhancements to our patented software, we are extremely proud to be able to offer colleges throughout North America the state-of-the-art solutions that we also provide professional sports teams.”

ANC’s recent collegiate programs include DLP® Digital Courtside Signage Systems, Diamond Vision video screens, LED ribbon systems, center-hung scoreboards and the integration of the company’s patent-pending VisionSOFT™ operating system. VisionSOFT is the only 3D interface capable of operating multiple displays through one console while distributing uncompressed video to its displays, creating the clearest images possible across all of a venue’s displays.

The flexibility of VisionSOFT to control various signage applications such as DLP, LED, plasma, or any other digital display creates the unique opportunity for a venue to utilize one operating system.

The University of Baylor selected VisionSOFT as the operating system for Paul J. Meyer Arena’s LED rings on the center-hung, 16 LED portals throughout the venue, four corner matrix and a DLP® courtside signage system. Meanwhile, the University of Virginia is utilizing the revolutionary platform to control 27 different LED displays from two different manufacturers including John Paul Jones Arena’s noisemeter, courtside signage, main video screen, scoring matrix, fascia ribbons, center-hung rings, and vomitorium signage.

The operating system’s unique features enable it to operate complex signage systems, or one display based on each venue’s requirements. While VisionSOFT operates several applications at the University of Baylor and University of Virginia, the University of Pennsylvania’s Palestra currently utilizes it to control ANC’s DLP® Courtside Signage System.
