New LED Products Release: Cree Debuts Packaged LED for IoT Applications and Tridonic Introduces New Generation LED Modules

Cree has launched XLamp XP-G3 LED S Line, an optimized version of its series for the applications of connected lighting. On the other hand, Tridonic has released its fifth generation 5 LLE module featuring high efficacy.

With the information collected by sensors or other sources, connected lighting system reacts to dim or switch off lighting for saving energy. The frequency of light switch and dimming is thus increased, adding more stress on the LED system, which potentially limits the lifetime of luminaires. The new XLamp XP-G3 S Line LED is designed to withstand double the number of switching cycles with innovated component architecture, claimed Cree.

“Cree’s lighting-class LEDs enabled the lighting revolution and LED lighting is now the industry standard. Looking forward, the lighting market will require LEDs designed to withstand the rigors of connected intelligent lighting,” said Dave Emerson, Cree LEDs executive vice president and general manager. “Cree’s new S Line LEDs employ a unique chip and package architecture that delivers the reliability and performance to withstand harsh environments, repeated dimming and on/off cycles.”

Tridonic has set new standards of efficacy and quality of linear LED modules with its fifth generation of 24 mm LLE ADVANCED modules. According to Tridonic, via enhanced production process and used of selected raw materials, the efficacy of the new modules has reached 200 lumen per watt in the high-efficacy portfolio and 190 lumen per watt in the standard portfolio.

The feature of high color rendering index (CRI) has also been addressed. Tridonic said, compared to the previous version, the new modules are available with a CRI > 80 and a CRI > 90, both as SELV and non-SELV variants. The modules can also be flexibly applied. They can be used directly as luminaires with suitable covers or combined with LED drivers to create a wide range of applications.
