Taiwan Government expects to invest NT$1-2 billion on LED traffic-light

Recently Premier Liu Chao-hsuan announced the government would promote an energy policy to develop energy technologies. It’s reported that the government would encourage changing the remaining 460,000 incandescent traffic lights islandwide to LED types, replacing all the incandescent lamps at government organizations with compact fluorescent lamps, and install solar hot water panels in 140,000 residences over the next four years. The government is estimated to spend NT$1-2 billion on LED traffic-light investments.

In the past, high power LED lighting has been one of the technical revolutions. Filament lamps have reigned supreme for something like a century, are now being replaced by LEDs.But using high power LEDs has never been as simple as using filament lamps - what with the need to control current by a dropping resistor or a DC:DC converter. for example, take the replacement of an interior car light. By the time you source a LED of sufficient intensity and organize and position a dropping resistor, it's a project that very rapidly loses appeal!

It's reported that KINCROME Australia has released two ranges of workshop lights using fluorescent and cordless LED technology.The "Fluoro" range includes four 240V fluorescent lamps, three of which have five metre leads and one with a 15m lead.The units differ in wattages, ranging from 13W up to the 26W featured by a twin fluorescent tube lamp. Recently, Hisense, China flat-panel TV maker, is mass producing its own self-developed 42-inch LED backlit LCD TV (TLM42T08GP), as part of its Anyview series of TVs, the new LED backlit LCD TV has a thickness of only 55 millimeters, according to Chinese language Sina.com report.The report indicated, Hisense will invest in a large-size LED backlight module unit (BLU) plant in China during the second half of the year according to Hisense's develop plan.
