It’s announced that LG will unveil the world's largest 72-inch full LED 3D TV at Consumer Electronics Show 2010 starting January 6. This full LED 3D TV boasts of Smart TV feature that pulls premium content like video on demand and App Store. It also features True motion 480Hz technology that promises almost no jarring images while watching fast action videos on the screen. It suits for watching 3D and 2D multimedia content.

Kouichi Okamoto in Japan has created an interesting balloon lamp, which is made of rubber, polypropylene, LED lighting and a lithium-coin battery. Thanks to the LED, this new lamp is energy efficient and can be used continuously over 100 hours by using the 2 lithium batteries.

Ameresco was reported to enter into a long-term Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) with the City of Greenville, South Carolina. It is now in the process of a series of system upgrades that will not only save the City an estimated $330,000 annually over a 15-year term but also reduce Greenville’s carbon footprint.

Recently, the Plant Operations crew has supported Buttrick Hall, a classroom building on Vanderbilt University’s campus to complete the replacement of 150 50-watt MR-16 halogen light bulbs with 6-watt LED bulbs. The new LED lights will save 57,000 kilowatt hours per year and avoid producing approximately 34 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year. “Going with LED lights made the most sense,” said Paul Netter, the Plant Operations manager who initiated and helped complete the changeover.

Downtown Gaylord of USA has received a $50,000 grant from the State's Economic Recovery Monies and planed to replace 86 lights on main street with new LED lights.   The new lights will be dark-sky compliant, and the total cost of the project will be $62,000.In addition, they will also save the city an expected $5,500 a year. The plan is to save money and replace the rest of the 145 total lights in the downtown area.

The city of Milan installs a dazzling LED light display portraying a cluster of outdoor clotheslines to celebrate Christmas. As part of the 2010 Milan LED Light Festival that kicked off earlier this month and runs until mid-January, Italian designer Fabio Novembre created “Ieri, Oggi, Domani” (“Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow), a dazzling LED tribute to Italy’s cultural appreciation of clotheslines.

Recently, the United States Patent Office has certificated Spectros white LED patent. In a reexamination of U.S. Patent No. 6,711,426, the Patent Office has affirmed that Spectros' use of White LEDs in medical spectroscopy is unique and protectable, and that certain other applications in biomedical and industrial spectroscopy devices also fall under this Spectros patent. The core Spectros white LED patent will reissue next year.

The new light fixtures will be paid for from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds and will begin to be installed in early 2011.The first of the new lights will be installed in alleys across the District, beginning in Wards 7 and 8.

Reportedly, Macy’ installed new LED lamps that use about 73 percent less energy to replace 117,000 traditional incandescent light bulbs in 86 stores. It estimates about 16,200 megawatts per hour every year in total energy savings.

It’s reported that Sharp Corporation has designed and will introduce the LR56001 LED controller for LED ceiling lights which can independently control up to three types of LED lights including cool white, warm white, and night light with each at the desired level of brightness. By adjusting the brightness of cool white and warm white lights ,the user is able to change the color emitted, anywhere from a warm red color to a cool light blue color.

Hi Score Corporation has supported a second round of Energy Saving EcoGreenBulb T5 Retrofit Kits as the addition to the original kits delivered earlier this year in Trump Towers of Sunny Isles, Florida. It estimated the conversion will reduce the energy required to light these areas by more than 50%.

With its LED streetlight, Wipro Lighting has won the ‘Design for Asia Merit Recognition Award 2010’.It is the first Indian company that recognizes the most influential design in Asia. The Orio streetlight features a LED technology and minimizes up to 50% of power consumption. The lighting solution is available in 24, 18, and 12 W versions with high power LEDs. The Orio offers 90% recyclability, energy efficiency and durability.

Recently, a lamp manufacturer Artemide has designed a table lamp called Egle,which features adjustable direct LED lighting and is available in polished white, black, or chrome finishes. It’s able to old tiny objects and spreads light when the lamp is adjusted downward.

TDK has used LED technology to upgrade its iconic neon sign at London’s Piccadilly Circus. The LED display which nearly has 100 square metres was jointly created by Barco, project management company MT² and system integrator Beaver Solutions. Barco’s 16mm TF-16BK LED tiles were used for the display. A web-based Scala content management system, supplied by Beaver was also used in the sign.

Haifa, the third largest city of Israel has created an eco-friendly tree to celebrate this Christmas in the city’s center. Created by Israeli designer Hadas Itzcovitch and her father, artist Ernest Itzcovitch, the new 38-foot Christmas tree made entirely of 5,480 recycled water bottles and other plastic objects donated by its residents and illuminated by LED-certified lights , to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Renesas Electronics America has released its R2A20134 LED driver IC which can supply high efficiency and a high power factor at low cost for LED lighting applications.   Renesas Electronics’ voltage step-down control technology (single-stage) provides a high line-to-ground voltage. Besides, the ability to select low-voltage MOSFETs (voltage tolerance of only 500 volts (V) to 300 V, rather than the typical 700 V) further contributes to lower system cost.
