Taiwan Firms to Develop Automatic-charging LED Bicycle Lamp

It’s reported that Taiwan there private companies have jointly developed an automatic-charging LED bicycle lamp. It’s disclosed that the high-tech LED bicycle lamp will be commercialized and launched in the market in February 2009. Lee Shui-yuan, president of Acxing Industrial Co., Ltd., one of the joint developers, pointed out that the new LED bicycle lamp is the only multi-function LED illumination device available on the market that can function as a bicycle front lamp, rear warning light, brake lamp, or an emergency flashlight.

LED traffic signals save city $280,000

Colorado Springs replaced the incandescent bulbs in traffic signals with LEDs. Now, the city has saved a bundle of money and untold kilowatts of electricity in a five-year effort. The replacement program began in 2003 and is nearing completion on all 561 intersections in the city. Measurements at 14 intersections showed costs declined 74 percent on average, yielding roughly $280,000 in savings.

New Measurement of LED Brightness and Color

The researchers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have developed a new, economical method for measuring the optical properties of high power LEDs to allow LED lighting manufacturers to obtain accurate, reproducible, and comparable measurements of LED brightness and color. By mounting the LED on a temperature controlled heat sink, the researchers can test the LEDs at their normal operating temperature at high speed.
