The IES offers conferences and seminars focused on current issues in lighting and on the built environment in general.

The Society offers award and scholarship programs. Awards range from recognition of contributions to the art and science of lighting to recognition of the service contributions of members. The IES Illumination Awards recognize excellence in lighting design.

Scholarships are offered: The Besal Fund, the Thunen Memorial Scholarships, and the Young Professionals Scholarship Fund. Recognition grants are also available via the Richard Kelly Fund and the Howard Brandston Student Lighting Grant.
