Global ASP of LED Light Bulbs Rose Slightly in March as Downtrends in Europe and the U.S. Moderated

In March, the global average sales price (ASP) of 40W-equivalent (equiv.) LED light bulbs rose 1.2% over the prior month to US$10.3, says the latest price report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. The global ASP of 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs also saw a monthly increase of 0.8% to US$14.1.

According to LEDinside analyst Allen Yu, the price trend in March was mainly the result of slowing declines in the U.S. and Europe and recoveries in other regional markets. Prices in Asia have bounced back with the exception of China.

In China’s LED package market, prices of high-power products of the 5630 and 3030 package types continued falling in March. Prices of 2835 LED packages and other standard products were approaching their costs, so they did not have much room for further decline.

Competition intensified in the high-power LED package market in March and 3030 products saw larger price decline
Standard LED package products became mostly unprofitable after their prices fell sharply in 2015. As a result, some manufacturers have abandoned the standard LED package market and move on to mid- and high-power markets.

In March, 2835 LED packages were on a stable price trend. The average price of 3030 products, on the other hand, fell noticeably by 3.5% compared with February. Yu pointed out that 3030 LED packages are expanding into a greater number of application fields, especially in the outdoor lighting sector (e.g. street and tunnel lights). Prices of 3030 LEDs are therefore expected to maintain downtrend in the short term as more manufacturers enter the market.
