LITE-ON Technology: Exhibited Innovative Light Source Solutions to Meet New Trends of Smart Automotive Lighting

As a leading group in Taiwan's electronic industry, Lite-On Technology has been cultivating the automotive LED market for many years. From March 21 to March 22 at the 5th Shanghai International Auto Lamp Exhibition (ALE), Lite-On exhibited a series of automotive LED products and solutions. During this period, LEDinside was fortunate to interview Mr. Sander Su, Senior Director of Optoelectronics Product Solutions SBG Office of Lite-On Technology Co., Ltd, and invited him to share Lite-On Technology’s development plans in the automotive LED market.

Mr. Sander Su, Senior Director of Optoelectronics Product Solutions SBG Office of Lite-On Technology Co., Ltd

According to Director Sander Su, in terms of optoelectronics business, Lite-On predicted that general lighting market would enter into the Red Ocean in 2014, so Lite-On decided to withdraw it and fully deployed the Blue Ocean markets such as automotive and infrared and sensors. Currently, Lite-On has cut into the OE supply chains of majority of international auto lamp manufactures, and is also actively building business relationship with mainstream auto lamp manufacturers and vehicle manufacturers in China. In the context of a floundering vehicle market in the year of 2018, Lite-On's revenue in automotive lighting still realized doubled growth.

At this exhibition, combining with LEDs, smart sensors and new light source technologies together, Lite-On completely demonstrated their automotive lighting products and innovative lighting source solutions through concatenating those application scenarios including front, rear, interior and smart sensing.

In the front lighting sector, Mr. Sander Su believes that matrix LED headlamps are still in the early stage of promotion and are only applied in a few high-end cars due to high cost. And he thought that it would not be truly universal access to vehicles until around the year of 2022. However, as a pioneer in technological innovation, Lite-On demonstrated innovative matrix LTPA-HxS series with single chip and brightness by up to 370 lm@1A, and each chip can be driven independently. Moreover, with multiple advantages such as high reliability, high luminous efficiency, high color uniformity, high color temperature consistency as well as low thermal resistance, the innovative matrix LTPA-HxS series can achieve maximum effects to road lighting, and then to provide a higher level of safety for drivers and pedestrians. In addition, Lite-On's whole series of front lighting LEDs are enabled to withstand temperatures by up to 150 ° C and are certified to the latest regulations of AEC-Q102.

In the tail lights sector, due to the lack of clear regulatory restrictions in the design part, tail light has increasingly become an important configuration for upgrading the vehicle grades in recent years, from simple signal functions to lead the automotive visual trends and even realizing interactive information transmission for technological concepts. The small-sized mid- and high-power products of 2720 series exhibited by Lite-On have the features like compact size, high flexibility and versatile specification, making it easy to achieve high-efficiency taillights with light-guided. Besides, the color texture is also an important quality for the taillights. Lite-On's whole series of tail light products are available in five different colors (white, white to yellow, yellow, red, super red) and have different levels of brightness which greatly increases the diversity of color applications for products.

Furthermore, Lite-On also demonstrated innovative application solutions with Mini and Micro LED technologies. The Mini LED matrix tail light application modules allow the tail lights to be used not only for lighting, but also for conveying more information to the rear driver, which further to improve the safety of driving.

In the interior lighting sector, ambient light is increasingly being payed attention by high-end brand automotive manufacturers who regard it as an important factor in realizing in-car comfort and reflecting special design of the car. Lite-On launches series of RGB LED E355 with built-in driver ICs, which simplify circuit design, improve flexibility of product applications and create full-color mixing and dynamic situation effects, presenting an exclusive cabin atmosphere.

In addition, at this exhibition, Lite-On diplayed smart sensing products for automotive applications, including headlight brightness adjustment, screen gesture control, automotive LIDAR, etc. As Lite-On is armed with R & D and production capacity in sensors and sensing systems, it has a natural advantage of layout of the smart automotive lighting field.

Regarding to the company’s future development plans in automotive market, Director Sander Su mentioned that all of Lite-On's automotive LED products had been certified to ensure product quality and safety. Moreover, the company is further committed to improving the added value and technological innovation of its products to meet the new trends of smart automotive lighting technology in the future.(LEDinside Terri)
