BOE Finally Passes Apple OLED Panel Certification, and Its Panels Are Served Before 2021

According to industry chain information cited by foreign news agencies, China-based panel maker BOE has officially passed Apple’s certification for supplying panels and has offered the OLED panels of iPhone 12 by the end of 2020.

Because BOE often failed to pass Apple’s OLED panel certification, the hopes of entering Apple’s supply chain in 2020 were gone. Originally, BOE was expected to pass the certification and enter the supply chain in 1H21. So far, BOE has passed Apple’s certification in December 2020 and has supplied iPhone OLED panels. With BOE’s entry, the suppliers of Apple’s iPhone OLED panels have been saturated. Thus, it is expected that Apple will not search for new suppliers.

According to previous market information, in 2021 Apple’s iPhone 13 series will also have four models. In addition, OLED panels will be adopted. Apple will release the largest demand for iPhone OLED panels on the market in 2021, with 160-180 million units. Moreover, Samsung will offer around 130 million units, and LGD will provide around 40 million units. The rest 10 million units will be served by BOE.

BOE’s third flexible OLED factory, the B12 production line in Chongqing, is expected to start mass production in 2H21. At that time, its OLED panel capacity will increase largely, with the monthly capacity reaching 144 thousand units. BOE once said that the global OLED market scale is expected to reach USD 49.7 billion in 2024, and it hopes to hold 40% of the market share.
