What It Takes to Make High-quality LEDs: A Visit to WELLMAX

The competitive dynamics of the LED lighting industry has drastically changed in the past decade, bringing both opportunity and challenge to buyers and sellers. Behind the rise and fall of many lighting companies, quality management, or in its essence: process management, is a key factor for one to stand out and foster long-term business relationships. So, what does it take to make high-quality LED products? What does a reliable quality management process look like? Last month, we paid a special visit to the top lighting exporter, Shanghai WELLMAX Lighting Industry (WELLMAX), to find the answer.

WELLMAX, renowned as the LED BULB EXPERT, has over 30 years of business experience in the lighting industry. Its QC manager, Mr. Yang, introduce their integrated QC system to us. He shared with us that WELLMAX’s QC system is all about products, processes, and the people behind it. Most importantly, quality control does not only start with finished goods. It starts much early in the process.

Perfecting Product Solution During R&D Phase

At the product development stage, WELLMAX’s engineers will put new products through extreme temperatures, voltage surge tests, and 10,000 times of switch testing to ensure their performance, reliability, and safety. Earlier this year, the WELLMAX R&D team spent over 6 months optimizing the solution before they released a new luminaire product series, the Eagle Eye Spotlight. Once introduced to the markets, the series was wildly welcomed by WELLMAX’s clients and has been sold over 300,000 pcs in less than a month. The popularity shows not only that the product meets market demands, but also that WELLMAX has built its trust amongst clients.

Managing Pre-Manufacturing Processes

Standardization of the production process is a fundamental QC homework. Besides that, the WELLMAX QC team conducts 100% inspection on all incoming raw materials at pre-manufacturing stage. Over 50 criteria must be checked-off by Mr. Yang’s team on-site to minimize the risk of having defective goods at the end of the production line.

Spot Check Before Shipment

All finished lights undergo a minimum 45-minute aging test for its final quality control inspection. In the final stage, WELLMAX team will do a random sampling to pick products out of the batch for a 24-hour test in UL-BOX (50℃). Drop test will also be conducted along with inspections on packaging and loading process. Furthermore, Mr. Yang told us that because the Chinese Spring Festival is approaching, they are stepping up the inspection efficiency in the factory floor and warehouse to ensure that both quality and speed are guaranteed.

WELLMAX, as the first strategic partner of SAMSUNG LED in China, has strong support from the SAMSUNG team. WELLMAX enjoys priority of adopting the newest LED chips in products, and the SAMSUNG LED IP protection has helped many OEM clients to gain a competitive edge in the market. The close cooperation between SGS, DEKRA, and the WELLMAX LAB has made testing and obtaining local certifications more efficient and credible.

At the end of the tour, Mr. Yang shared with us that as the LED BULB EXPERT, WELLMAX looks for long-term business partnerships with clients instead of a simple transaction. With that goal, every product detail, every process, and every letter on the product packaging makes a difference to the business and to end-consumers.

WELLMAX’s commitment to ‘Quality First’ sets a benchmark for players in the industry. With reliable products and professional teams, WELLMAX wins market recognition as a leading global supplier of LED lighting products.
