TCL Unveils New 2024 TV Range - Including A 5000-Nit, Mini LED 115 Incher

News Source:

TCL has taken the wraps off its entire 2024 TV range at the current CES, including new models in its Q and S Classes, and its biggest and most premium model ever.

That new flagship is the 115-inch 115QM89, which TCL claims is the world’s largest Mini LED TV with Quantum Dot color. Apparently this monster will carry a massive 20,000 separate local dimming zones for its Mini LED lighting array, driven by a souped up ‘Ultra’ version of TCL’s AIPQ processor that’s not only capable of driving that many dimming zones but also optimizes images to suit the epic screen size.

The flagship 115QM89 from TCL will feature a 115-inch screen, 5000 nits of peak brightness, mini LED lighting and 20,000 local dimming zones.

The set is claimed to be capable of hitting a massive 5000 nits of brightness, too, supports variable refresh rates and the AMD FreeSync Premium Certification, and is, as you would expect with such a premium model, a 120Hz panel. In fact it’s capable of delivering a 240Hz effect via TCL’s Game Accelerator function.

There’s also an anti-glare screen, claimed coverage of 98% of the DCI-P3 color range, Dolby Vision IQ HDR support, HDR10+ support, and IMAX Enhanced Certification, and finally the 115QM89 backs its massive images up with a Dolby Atmos-capable built-in 6.2.2 Channel Speaker system.

One step down from the 115QM89 flagship is the QM8 range. This actually retains many of the features available in the QM89, including the claimed 5,000 nits of brightness, with the main differences being that they ‘only’ deploy up to 5000+ dimming zones (though this is more than twice as many zones as you got with TCL’s previous flagship models), the integrated speaker system features 2.1.2 channels and the color coverage drops to 97% of DCI-P3. The QM8 series will be available in 65 to 98-inch sizes.

Another step down TCL’s 2024 TV range will get you to the new QM7 series. This drops to a 2.1-channel speaker system, and tops out at (a still unusually high) 1,500 or so local dimming zones and 2,400 nits of peak brightness. Impressively for a range that’s likely to be delivered at pretty aggressive price points (although TCL hasn’t yet confirmed pricing), the QM7s will still retain 120Hz panels with the Game Accelerator 240Hz feature, IMAX Enhanced Certification, TCL’s AIPQ Pro processor, Mini LED technology, coverage of a claimed 95% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum, and AMD FreeSync Premium Certification.

The QM7s will be available with adjustable height pedestal stands in 65 to 85-inch screen sizes.

Rounding out the new Quantum Dot-equipped Q Class range are the Q6 and Q6-Pro series. These 60Hz models (though they get a 120Hz version of TCL’s Game Accelerator technology) lose the mini LED lighting of the ‘QM’-designated models, reverting to standard-sized LEDs. The Q6-Pro models will drive these LEDs with a Full Array Local Dimming system claimed to deliver 33% more brightness than previous similar-level TCL generations, achieving peaks of 600 nits. The Q6-Pros will also offer ‘convenience features’ over the Q6es, such as hands-free voice control, a backlit remote, and adjustable width feet on the larger screen sizes so that you can fit them on relatively narrow bits of furniture. The Q6-Pros will be available in 50 to 85-inch screen sizes, with the 85-inch set actually getting a native 120Hz panel and Game Accelerator 240Hz.

The Q6 series switch to universal backlights without local dimming, but their new High Brightness Plus LED backlight system is still claimed to deliver 28% more brightness than TCL’s previous equivalent models. And even these relatively affordable Q Class models still get Game Accelerator 120Hz with VRR support (with the 85-inch and bigger models again getting native 120Hz panels with Game Accelerator 240Hz support). The Q6es will be available from 43-inch all the way up to 98-inch screen sizes.

The 2024 addition to TCL’s S Class TVs will be the S5 series. These incorporate a high brightness LED backlight capable of delivering up to 25% more brightness and enhanced color compared with other S Class models. They also mark the first time that an S Class series has been equipped with TCL’s AIPQ Processor, the latest version of which includes a new AI Super Resolution feature for better upscaling and sharper-looking native 4K images.

The S5 series is out to get more value from HDR sources than many affordable TVs, too, by including TCL’s HDR Pro+ system, which includes support for both the Dolby Vision and HDR10+ HDR formats, with their extra, dynamic range enhancing and accuracy-increasing extra scene by scene picture information.

On the audio front, the S5 series adds new Enhanced Dialog and TV as Center Channel modes, the latter of which lets the TV’s speakers become the centre channel with a TCL soundbar system.

Another first for TCL’s S series is connectivity that supports custom installations, while the S5’s design follows TCL’s new desire to deliver full 360 design concepts that look good from any angle.

The S5 series will be available in 43 to 85-inch screen sizes.
