Cree, Inc. today announced that it signed a cross license agreement with Ledvance, Inc. under which Cree will receive ongoing royalty payments and a royalty-free license to Ledvance’s patent portfolio. In exchange, Ledvance will receive a license to Cree’s extensive portfolio of patents related to LED light bulbs and LED luminaires.

Cree, Inc. introduces the XLamp® XHP70.2 LED, the second generation of the highest output Extreme High Power LED, which delivers up to 9 percent more lumens and 18 percent higher lumens-per-watt (LPW) than the first generation XHP70 LED.

Cree, Inc. announces enhancements to its industry-leading XLamp CXA2 family of chip-on-board (COB) LEDs, including new premium color options, higher light output levels and the longest lifetimes published for this type of LED. The premium color quality options include high fidelity (98 CRI) and specialty color points for the 9 to 19 mm LES sizes with up to 50 percent higher efficacy than LEDs of similar sizes and light quality. Cree, Inc. announces the C1010 LED, a breakthrough three-in-one RGB Surface Mount Device (SMD) LED that enables display manufacturers to create state-of-the-art video displays that are sharper and more dynamic than previously possible. Featuring the best far field pattern matching and the lowest power consumption in its class, the new LED delivers 40 percent better contrast ratio and a longer lifetime than competing LEDs. The C1010 is the only high density display LED with zero cross talk between pixels, eliminating the need for louvers that add cost and weight to displays.

Cree, Inc., a market leader in LED lighting, today announced consolidated revenue of $347 million from continuing operations, and $54 million from discontinued operations, for a combined revenue of $401 million for its second quarter of fiscal 2017. This represents an 8% decrease compared to combined revenue of $436 million ($394 million from continuing operations and $42 million from discontinued operations) for the second quarter of fiscal 2016 and an 8% increase compared to the first quarter of fiscal 2017. Combined GAAP net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2017 was $6 million, or $0.06 per diluted share, compared to combined GAAP net income of $13 million, or $0.13 per diluted share, for the second quarter of fiscal 2016. On a non-GAAP basis, combined net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2017 was $30 million, or $0.30 per diluted share, compared to combined non-GAAP net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2016 of $28 million, or $0.28 per diluted share.

Cree, a leader in LED lighting, announced that it has reached a confidential settlement in its patent infringement and false advertising lawsuit with Feit Electric Company. The settlement ends U.S. International Trade Commission ("ITC") investigation No. 337-TA-947 (“Certain Light-Emitting Diode Products and Components Thereof”) against Feit and its Asian supplier, Unity Opto Technology and the corresponding lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin.

The Town of Hempstead, N.Y., the largest township in the country, is making the switch to LED technology with the conversion of more than 50,000 high-pressure sodium fixtures to LED street lights from Cree. The installation is already underway with future phases planned to bring LED lighting to the town’s municipal buildings, parks and marinas. The street light project delivers an anticipated two and a half-year payback with nearly $3 million in annual energy savings and US $57 million in total lifetime savings.

U.S. LED manufacturer Cree has filed a lawsuit against another LED competitor MaxBrite over design patent and trademark infringement last week, reported Triangle Business Journal.

Cree has filed a complaint against E. Mishan & Sons, Inc. (“Emson”) with the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts for infringement of Cree’s patented LED technology in Emson’s flashlights, such as the Bell + Howell Taclight.

An Arizona-based LED luminaire manufacturer Optolum is suing top U.S. LED manufacturer Cree over patent infringement, reported The News & Observer.

Cree, a market leader in LED lighting, announced consolidated revenue of US $321 million from continuing operations, and $50 million from discontinued operations, for a combined revenue of $371 million for its first quarter of fiscal 2017. This represents a 13% decrease compared to combined revenue of $425 million ($381 million from continuing operations and $44 million from discontinued operations) for the first quarter of fiscal 2016 and a 4% decrease compared to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016. Combined GAAP net income for the first quarter of fiscal 2017 was $0.6 million, or $0.00 per diluted share, compared to combined GAAP net loss of $24 million, or $0.24 per diluted share, for the first quarter of fiscal 2016.

Cree recently had laid off a small number of employees, including at its Durham headquarters, reported Triangle Business Journal.

Cree confirmed that the company has laid off approximately 2.5% of its employees at its Durham headquarters, reported the Journal Times. The company reported that local job cuts and an unspecified number of jobs that were eliminated out of “response to current business conditions.”

Cree appoints Daniel Castillo as President, Lighting, effective Nov. 7, 2016. In this role, Castillo will report to Chuck Swoboda and will lead both the commercial and consumer lighting businesses. Castillo joins Cree from Eaton Corporation, where he was most recently Senior Vice President, Oil, Gas and IEC Assemblies. Prior to his work at Eaton, Castillo held leadership roles in lighting and other electrical product areas at both Cooper Industries and General Electric.

Cree announces the new XLamp XQ-E and XP-E High Efficiency (HE) Photo Red LEDs, the industry’s highest performing LEDs optimized for horticulture. Cree, a market leader in LED lighting, today announced revenue of US $388 million for its fourth quarter of fiscal 2016, ended June 26, 2016. This represents a 2% increase compared to revenue of $382 million reported for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015, and a 6% increase compared to the third quarter of fiscal 2016. GAAP net loss for the fourth quarter was $11 million, or $0.11 per diluted share, compared to GAAP net loss of $88 million, or $0.83 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015. On a non-GAAP basis, net income for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016 was $19 million, or $0.19 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net loss for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015 of $21 million, or $0.19 per diluted share.

Cree introduces the XLamp® MHB-B LED, a new high-power LED that enables a more effective way to deliver lower system costs for high lumen, high efficiency applications designed to meet the new DesignLights Consortium® (DLC) 4.0 Premium requirements. Leveraging key elements of Cree’s SC5 Technology™ Platform, the ceramic MHB-B LEDs combine high light output, high efficacy and high reliability to enable high lumen LED designs that are not possible with mid-power LEDs. The MHB-B LED delivers up to 931 lumens at 85°C and 13% higher LPW than the MHB-A LED in the same 5mm x 5mm package, allowing lighting manufacturers to quickly increase performance for existing MHB designs without any additional investment.
