Revolution Lighting Technologies announced financial results for the third quarter (Q3) ended September 30, 2017.

Revolution Lighting Technologies on 22nd September provided an update to its projected third and fourth quarter results, and revised its full year guidance. As a result of recent hurricane activity in Texas and the south east impacting our multifamily lighting revenue, and the slippage of a number of our Energy Source division projects from the third quarter to the fourth quarter, our third quarter results will be negatively impacted.

Philips Lighting, a global leader in lighting, has created a sneak preview of what urban life could be like in 2030, in a future-gazing virtual reality experience. At Smart Cities Expo World Congress in Barcelona today, Philips Lighting Research unveiled a picture of how connected lighting technology will play a key part in underpinning the smart cities we can expect to inhabit in just over a decade. 

  The biggest lighting industry event, Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition), ended successfully on 30th of October. During the event, there were more than 2,661 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions, including 146 Taiwanese exhibitors. Edison Opto also showcased smart-lighting-related AC modules and new COB series which used the latest TM-30 technique to attract customers’ attention.

Toshiba Corporation's Storage & Electronic Devices Solutions Company today announced the launch of “TBD62089APG”, a new-generation transistor array for applications such as LED lighting for amusement equipment and high voltage signal transmitters for industrial equipment. The new IC incorporates D-type Flip Flop circuits (8 bit type) in the input part that support a data storage function. Sample shipments start today with mass production scheduled to start at the end of December 2016.

Power management company Eaton today announced that AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Florida, home of the National Basketball Association’s (NBA®) Miami HEAT, is installing its advanced Ephesus sports lighting light-emitting diode (LED) and controls system. Featuring industry-leading control functions, the LED system enhances the viewing experience for spectators while reducing energy use by as much as 75 percent.

SCS replaced 44 MUSCO Metal Halide HID sports lights that used 2,300 watts each. SCS designed and installed 40 sports stadium rated - 900 watts each - LED lights replacing the existing MUSCO lights. SCS LED lights provide 3 times the foot candle measurements to the baseball diamond and all three outfield positions, using only 180,000 watts per game; a savings of 326,000 watts per game!

Three decades ago, as part of its preparations for hosting the Summer Olympics, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum partnered with Musco—the Official Supplier of Lighting to the 1984 Olympic Games—for the installation of a new lighting system for opening ceremonies and track and field competition.

 Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC)*  announced a new lineup of ultra-efficient, high-speed, high-voltage MOSFETs for switching voltage regulator designs. Available with 800V and 900V ratings, the four N-channel devices (TK4A80E, TK5A80E, TK3A90E, TK5A90E) are targeted to applications including flyback converters in LED lighting, supplementary power supplies and other circuits that require current switching below 5.0A.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona, U.S. finished installing more than 3,000 LED bulbs in the East Economy parking garage, reported KTAR News.

As part of the three-pillar strategy announced last November, Osram is further expanding the leading position of its Specialty Lighting (SP) business. The company has agreed to acquire Novità Technologies, a U.S. manufacturer of automotive LED modules which are used particularly in tail lights, fog lights and daytime running lights. The acquisition will immediately be margin-accretive in the Specialty Lighting segment.

The global LED industry benefited from emerging lighting market demands, but the LED backlight industry has entered a mature plateau phase. Price wars intensified in mainstream LED chip and application sectors, turning into an overtly competitive red sea market. In 2015, global LED market value declined for the first time by 3% to US $14.33 billion, according to statistics compiled by LEDinside, a research division of Taipei-based market research institute TrendForce.

Aside from increasing the visual playing conditions for both players and spectators, as well as minimising shadows, stadium lighting is also under strict guidelines enforced by associations such as Union of European Football Associations. This guarantees that experiences of those watching a match on television have the same viewing experience as those watching inside the stadium. If football is truly seen as the “beautiful game”, then the necessity to provide audiences consistent and true-to-life visual experiences is crucial.

Philips Lighting, a global leader in lighting today announced that it has signed a patent license agreement with the US company Amerlux. The license, based on Philips Lighting’s EnabLED licensing program’s published terms and conditions, provides Amerlux with full, worldwide access to a wide range of basic LED control and system-level technologies. As a result of the agreement, the outstanding litigation between the companies related to patents offered under the EnabLED licensing program for LED Luminaires and Retrofit Bulbs has been dismissed.  To date more than 200 US companies have joined the EnabLED program and Amerlux is the second to be announced within a week.

Philips Lighting and the City of Birmingham, today announced a new project to modernize the City’s infrastructure by upgrading the current parking garage lighting to energy efficient connected LED lighting.

Researchers from KU Leuven (Belgium), the University of Strasbourg, and CNRS have discovered a new phosphor that could make next-generation fluorescent and LED lighting even cheaper and more efficient. The team used highly luminescent clusters of silver atoms and the porous framework of minerals known as zeolites.

Bay City Metering played a significant role in both the project implementation and the relationship between Independence LED and Newmark Holdings.
