Recently, Everett traffic engineers got the green light to replace every green light in the city. City street crews will soon swap out incandescent green light bulbs at 169 traffic signals and replace them with more energy-efficient light emitting diodes, or LEDs.LEDs are used in electronic devices such as cell phones, digital alarm clocks and even the crystal ball that descends on New York's Times Square on New Year's Eve. In order to reduce the greenhouse gas and cope with the problems rising from high oil prices and high energy consumption, many countries have announced new regulations in relation to using the high efficiency and cost saving light sources in replacement of incandescent lamps. Recently, Future Lighting Solutions announced the availability of the new Linear Optic 210 from Polymer Optics Limited designed specifically for linear arrays of LUXEON Rebel LEDs. It's reported that Purdue University researchers have found a way to reduce some of the cost of creating LED lighting, a find that could lead to more cost-efficient lighting.The research was reported in an article this month in the journal Applied Physical Letters. Timothy Sands, professor of materials engineering, and computer and electrical engineering, led the team that included graduate students Mark H. Oliver, Jeremy L. Schroeder, David A. Ewoldt, Isaac H. Wildeson, Robert Colby, Patrick R. Cantwell and Vijay Rawat, along with assistant professor Eric A. Stach.
