With the LED lighting era on its way, Epistar has seized LED lighting market shares through virtual vertical integration with downstream manufacturers, according to Economic Daily News. The company has currently invested over 9 percent in Edison shares totaling NT $300 million (US $9.9 million), and is considering increasing shares in the future.

Jason Wu, chairman of Taiwanese LED package manufacturer Edison Opto, is optimistic about lighting demand growth in 2014 and the opportunity for operations to rebound in March. The company expanded PLCC and COB production capacity in 2013 as LED lighting demands continued to rise. The company plans to further expand PLCC in 2014 and estimates that monthly production will increase to 800KK in 2014.

Taiwanese LED package manufacturer Edison Opto consolidated revenue for Dec. 2013 reached NT$ 209 million (US$ 6.95 million), a decrease of 2.09 percent compared to last month. However, the company’s Dec. 2013 revenue has soared 50.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Affected by the traditionally low season in 4Q13, consolidated revenue reached NT$ 641 million, despite a quarterly decrease of 22.54%, consolidated revenue increased 38.54 percent. The company’s consolidated revenue in 2013 reached NT$ 2.74 billion, a YoY increase of 20.91%.

With the keen competition of LED market, products of different qualities have flooded the industry. Every manufacturer states that the lifespan of their products can up to tens of thousands of hours and their efficacy is extremely high. But without specification, the real performance of those products is doubtful. In view of this phenomenon, California Energy Commission (CEC) developed the quality LED lamp specification in 2012. 

Taiwanese LED packager Edison Opto’s  3Q13 financial results showed the company’s consolidated revenue reached NT$ 826 million (US$ 27.99 million) and underwent a Year-on-Year (YoY) growth rate of 44.89 percent and Quarter-on-Quarter (QoQ) of 1.6 percent. Under market cutthroat price competition in 2Q, consolidated profit margin was up 7.7 percent compared to 2Q13 to 19.97 percent.

Recently, Edison Opto has extended to 40W high-power version (HM40). Using patented phosphor, HM40 improves the thermal stability and reduce the phenomenon of light decay. Furthermore, EdiPower II HM series is based on the mirror-like MCPCB which features excellent reflectivity (up to 98 percent), so that the luminous efficacy of components can be increased by 10 percent to 30 percent and the energy waste can be reduced effectively.

As the effectiveness of layout in Chinese market is paying off, OEM orders continues to increase. LED packaging enterprise Edison said that Q3 is the traditional peak season for LED lighting, order visibility has stretched to 1.5 to 2 months, the capacity utilization of existing production lines can be maintained at 90%.
