Lextar Electronics ("Lextar" or the "Company") (TAIEX: 3698) has announced its preliminary December 2010 revenue of NT$ 660 million, comparable to that of November 2010 up by 16.6% and up by 85.8% year-over-year. In the forth quarter of 2010, Lextar’s unaudited revenues totaled NT$ 1.73 billion. For the year ended December 31, 2010, unaudited revenue totaled NT$ 8.1 billion, a 297% Y-o-Y increase. Lextar Electronics ("Lextar" or the "Company") (TAIEX: 3698) announced that it has successful demonstrated bright light emission from the processed wafer using the advanced 6-inch technology. It signatures an important milestone for Lextar to become the first LED company in Taiwan to light up the 6-inch processed wafer. Lextar’s New Process Project Team employs the unique exposure and grinding technology, therefore can avoid the issue of wafer warp and crack which is the most challenging in 6-inch chip process.

Taiwan-based LED chip maker Lextar Electronics expected the ratio for LED lighting applications would reach over 10% of its revenues in the end of 2010, from less than 5% at the beginning of 2010. And the company was to reduce product development time from 2-6 months to 1-3 months through integrate vertically.

As the ensuing demands for LED backlights, the world's first-tier manufacturers of brand computers have scheduled to tap into tablet PCs in the first quarter 2011, therefore Taiwan's industry executives predict it will create business for Taiwan's LED makers when the market for TV backlights started losing growth steam in the third quarter. According to Taiwan's industry executives, tablet PC backlights are particularly suitable for manufacturers specializing in small and medium backlights for uses in mobile phones and digital photo frames.

A president of Lextar Electronics estimated, usually, market demand growth will increase significantly when market share reaches 15-20%, and LED-backlit TV market share will reach around 20% in 2010.

Affected from inventory adjustment in the LCD TV segment, most Taiwan LED companies’ September revenues, included Everlight, Bright, Harvatek, and Lextar, had been lower compared to in August.

As Inventory adjustments by panel makers and lower inventory of CCFL panels and CCFL TVs, most Taiwan LED packagers, chipmakers August revenues become lower than last month. LED chip packaging Unity Opto Technology August revenues slip 4.6% but up 58% on year to NT$670 million (US$20.979 million). The total income in 2010 until August 31 reached NT$4.62 billion, which more NT$4 billion than the whole 2009.

Taiwan’s LED chipmaker Lextar Electronics is expanding its production capability in September in order to adopt  MOCVD machines for 6-inch epitaxial wafers, which made Lextar may be the first LED chip maker in Taiwan with such equipmentmake. Lextar pointed out that its September capacity is expected to reach 90,000 wafers and 750 million LED chips. At the end of the year, the company plans to have a capacity of 130,000 wafers per month and 850 million LED chips.

Recently, Lextar Electronics Corp., a LED-chip manufacturing subsidiary of Taiwan's largest TFT-LCD panel maker AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), won order from Samsung of South Korea for LCD TV-panel backlights. Local LED makers said that Lextar would ship in-house packed LEDs to Samsung with LED chips supplied by Nichia of Japan and Epistar of Taiwan.

Entegris, Inc. announced it shipped multiple Aeronex Gas Purification Systems to Lextar Electronics Corporation. Entegris' Aeronex systems are used in light emitting diode (LED) manufacturing to help ensure the desired brightness of the final LED device.

Festering market of LCD panels, the major applications of various backlights, has compelled Taiwan Lamp maker Wellypower Optronics Corp. to shift business emphasis to lighting. The company will ramp up output of LED emitters and LED lighting fixtures to find an outlet for LED chips from Lextar Electronics Corp., which is a member of the AUO Group as is Wellypower.
