LG Electronics, the world's No.2 TV vendor, said Sunday that it would launch a 15-inch OLED TV in September at the IFA 2009 consumer electric show in Berlin.
Comparing with traditional LCD displays, AM-OLED displays are thinner, more energy efficient and can provide better picture quality, while the high price has kept it from becoming a mass-produced technology.

Tony Blair and Jet Li have launched the 1,000-Village Solar LED Initiative in Guiyang, China. The five-year project, which is a joint initiative between The Climate Group and the Jet Li One Foundation, will engage 400 villages in China in the first two years, and 600 villages in China, India and African countries on the second stage.

The roof of Melbourne’s new Rectangular Stadium would be covered with thousands of LED lights that can shine in any color and be programmed into a multitude of patterns, Tim Pallas, Major Projects Minister of Australia recently announced. The lighting scheme would put the AU$267.5 million Rectangular Stadium up there with Beijing’s water cube and the 2006 World Cup stadium Allianz Arena in Munich, Mr. Pallas said.

Samsung Electronics on July 24 posted an impressive set of its second quarter earnings. For the three months through June, operating profits were just over $2 billion, a fivefold increase on the first quarter and up 5% from a year earlier. The total revenue was $26 billion, up 13.4% from the first quarter and 11.7% from the same period last year.
