Global chip manufacturer TSMC has been attending international conventions this year to increase exposure for newly developed package free phosphor-on-die (PoD) technology. Optimistic about the economic performance for TSMC Solar and TSMC Solid State Lighting, the company plans to list the two businesses on the stock market in the next few years, said Morris Chang chairman of TSMC.

Taiwanese manufacturers that set significant booths at Lighting Japan 2013 including Everlight, OPTOTECH, Genesis Photonics Inc., and Ledlink Optics, as well as exhibitors of the Taiwanese pavilion have all acquired numerous orders at this exposition.  Genesis Photonics Inc. announced that they have acquired an order of 100,000 of their patent candle light bulbs. LED chips produced by the company are applied to these bulbs that share several features of incandescent light bulbs, and mass production is expected to take place in the second half of 2013.......

Sources inform that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s LED subsidiary, TSMC Solid State Lighting Ltd. , is likely to acquire the GaN-on-Silicon technology recently launched by Bridgelux. Reportely, Bridgelux CEO Bill Watkins stated that the company would work with a well-known chipmaker on LED manufacturing using the latest technology to pare down cost and increase profit.
