Foxconn to Move LCD Production to North America and Spearheads the Integration of Region’s Consumer Electronics Chain, Says TrendForce

Foxconn on July 26 announced the initiation of its “Flying Eagle Project” in North America and a US$10 billion investment to build a Gen-10.5 LCD panel fab in Wisconsin. According to WitsView, a division of TrendForce, this proposed plant will be mainly producing panels of 8K resolution. Display technologies behind 8K resolution are well developed and have existed for a while. Nonetheless, Foxconn’s Wisconsin plant represents the first-ever attempt to build LCD manufacturing capacity in North America. As LCD technology matures, having an integrated supply chain for its end products near or within the key regional markets will be crucial to the competitiveness of panel suppliers and consumer electronics brands.

LEDinside: Taiwanese LED manufacturers’ sales revenue in May sets a record high; order demand for backlight in June remains steady

As indicated by market research organization TrendForce’s research division LEDinside, LED market demand was benefited from inventory demand and lighting market order demand. In May, 2013, Taiwanese listed LED manufacturers’ total sales revenue increased to NTD10.96 billion (+6.8%MoM,+23.8%YoY). Meanwhile, Taiwanese listed LED chip manufacturers’ total sales revenue reached NTD4.44 billion (+6.7%MoM,+10.9%YoY). Moreover, that of Taiwanese listed LED package manufacturers also increased to NTD6.52 billions (+6.9%MoM,+34.4%YoY).
