Philips Lighting recently launched a new wireless connected lighting system aimed at today’s global office lighting systems market worth more than $5 billion1. The Philips InterAct Office system enables building managers to reduce energy use by up to 70 percent, optimize operations and create a more comfortable environment without major office renovation. Available first in the US, it targets the 15 billion square feet market for existing offices in North America2. The system, with lamps and luminaires equipped with sensors, is installed and operated by Philips Lighting as a managed service, dispensing with the need for customers to make upfront capital investments. 

Dutch lighting giant Philips Lighting announced that its Saudi Arabia JSC has signed a strategic distribution agreement with major retailor Ahmed Abdulwahed Trading Company to sell its LED and home products, according to Arab News.

Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. announced consolidated first-quarter revenues of KRW 257.5 billion. The rise in consolidated revenue came from strong sales in general lighting and strength across all segments within the IT division. The rise in automotive lighting sales also proved highly profitable for the company.

Kroma Technologies plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign for a new brand of premium, motion-reactive lightwear within the next two months.  The brand will launch with two products: KromaKicks - a pair of legwarmers, and the KromaHood - a headpiece.  

Hong Kong will soon replace its street lights with more energy-efficient LED units, government officials confirmed. The competent authority, Honk Kong Highways Department, on Wednesday said due to mature LED technology and the significant drop in prices of LED light, the department agrees now is the right time to commence LED street lights replacement scheme. It added that replacement work has already started in the current financial year.

U.S. LED maker Cree Inc. on Tuesday reported a fiscal third-quarter loss that missed expectations. Shares of Cree further plunged 11% on Wednesday. Cree also announced that it is forming a joint venture with San’an Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., China’s largest maker of LED epitaxial wafers and chips, to produce and deliver to market high-performing, mid-power lighting class LED packaged products. The news caused quite a stir in the LED industry.

The home team of GIF Sundsvall, a club in the Allsvenskan premier Swedish football league, uses the hall for daily training, hall competitions and friendly matches.

Avnet, a major global technology distributor, announced that Avnet Illumineer Bob Householder will be among the featured course instructors at this year’s LIGHTFAIR International (LFI), May 7-8, 2017, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia. Philips Lighting announced that MediaMarkt’s flagship store in the center of Eindhoven will introduce "Store Guide” app.  It allows customers in store to use their smartphones to locate products and be guided to them quickly and easily thanks to innovative LED lighting that acts as an indoor positioning system.  

The Brecon Beacons National Park, one of the three national parks in Wales, UK, has earned special protection of its night sky from light pollution and is an ideal place for stargazing. However, for the sake of safety, the Welsh Government recently installed LED street lights in Cwmdu, Powys, leaving a campaign group concerned.
