The implementation and development of lighting standards has built up the market’s confidence in the Solid State Lighting (SSL) industry, according to a Leading Testing Laboratories (LTL) report. Osram is launching the world's first product based on organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) for car interiors in the form of a new reading lamp. The OLED Reading Light consists of a high-quality matt aluminum housing and provides a very warm and uniform light. Sony is suspending OLED TV production as sales slump. The Japanese manufacturer is instead turning their sights to 4K LCD TVs as they are less expensive to manufacturer and sell at much lower prices compared to OLED TVs, reports Japan’s Nikkei. Half of the TV sets Sony intends to launch on the market next year include 4K sets. 

Universal Display Corporation reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. For the first quarter of 2014, the Company reported net income of US $4.0 million, or US $0.09 per diluted share, on revenues of US $37.8 million. For the first quarter of 2013, the Company reported a net loss of US $4.8 million, or US $(0.10) per diluted share, on revenues of US $15.0 million.

More than one month has passed since Philips Lumiblade posted a teaser video on its Facebook account hinting the company’s OLEDs will be traveling to space on a NASA space shuttle. The tight lipped company has finally revealed the OLED application in space, and to our surprise had nothing to do with the shuttle’s interior lighting.
