Promoted by the policy, the LED outdoor lighting market value will be up to 2,478 million USD in 2013, an annual growth over 46%. In other emerging countries such as Thailand, Russia, Latin America and Africa, considerable streetlight replacements will also be installed in 2014. The installation of LED streetlight replacements will gradually slow down in 2015, and the number of worldwide LED streetlight replacements and newly installed LED streetlights will be maintained at approximately 10 million/year.

According to LEDinside, the LED research division of TrendForce, major lighting markets in the world have been affected by the European debt crisis in varying degrees. Certain Chinese LED firms whose businesses rely heavily on overseas markets have seen a decline in orders, which is particularly pronounced in the European lighting market. As a result, many LED companies start to shift their focus to the Chinese LED bidding market. In fact, China has recently restarted the bidding for LED subsidies in July, which provided hope for many LED firms.

LEDinside indicated that there will be a first small peak in the Chinese market in 2012, and the LED lighting market will be likely to come to 2 billion USD, its penetration rate in the general lighting market up 15.6%. LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce, reports that China has become the largest production base for lighting products, accounting for 70% of the global capacity. According to LEDinside’s survey, China’s average number of monthly exported incandescent lamps, halogen lamps, hot-cathode compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and other lighting devices (including LED light sources) amounted to 667 million pieces, reaching a total value of US$ 1,140 million in 2010. The total export volume of 2010 reached 7.99 billion pieces and the total value hit US$ 13.677 billion, with a 24.2% growth in volume and 34.7% in value compared to 2009.

LEDinside, the LED industry research institute has released its latest LED price trend report, showing that the LED price plummeted sharply in Q3 2010 due to the sudden decline in the LED application demand including inventory adjustment resulting from less-than-expected large-size panel demand and sluggish lighting application demand.  The LED price for large-size panel application fell around 11-16% while the high power LED for lighting application slumped more than 17%. As for the mobile application, LED price kept roughly flat with about 3-4% seasonal erosion thanks to the relatively stable demand.

It is estimated that a total of 870,000 units of LED streetlights will be installed in 2010, an increase of 42.62% compared to 610,000 in 2009.

Governments around the world began to commit in promoting energy-saving policies, and the cost of LED lighting began to fall; these factors help to stimulate the growth of the energy-saving market. Research institute LEDinside indicated that with the ban on incandescent bulbs, business opportunities of 10W and below LED light bulbs began to emerge, and that light makers have cut prices in order to compete in the market that supplies nearly 20 billion units of incandescent bulbs per year.
