With the official opening of Oak Ridge National Laboratories ZEBRAlliance project, Seoul Semiconductor (CEO Mr. Chung Hoon Lee, www.seoulsemicon.com) demonstrated how LEDs can help illuminate and define a home’s living area using a fraction of the energy consumed by traditional incandescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs.

The Lighting Change is Anticipated to Save Chili’s $3.7 Million Per Year Brinker International, parent company of Chili’s Restaurants and Maggiano’s Restaurants, has recently installed Eco-story LED lighting (www.eco-story.com) as part of a re-lamp project in all of its corporate restaurants. The project, which involves installing 125,000 LED lamps in the interior and exterior of all 827 corporate restaurants, will be the largest U.S. roll-out of LED lamp technology to date.

 

Golden DRAGON Plus and OSLON SSL LEDs with their efficiency of 37% are among the most efficient light sources on the market in the deep red range (660 nm wavelength). Operators of commercial greenhouses will benefit from the high efficiency and the associated energy savings the new LEDs can deliver. In cooperation with Fionia Lighting A/S in Denmark a pilot project covering several thousand square meters of planting achieved energy savings of 40%.

LED North America has acquired a new technology that extends the life of light-emitting diode lamps from DOE's Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The firm plans to use the graphite foam to passively cool components in LED lamps. Cooling LED lamps is critical to increasing their efficiency, considering that each 10-degree decrease in temperature can double the life of the lighting components.

Nualight has developed a more energy efficient line of glass door lighting Porto 600, to step into the North America market at the Food Marketing Institute Energy and Store Development conference in Minneapolis this week.   With wattages for center mullions at 16 watts and end mullions at 8.5 watts, the Porto 600 line is one of the lowest energy usage LEDs on the market.

Sensor Electronic Technology, Inc. (SETI) has shifted the power of UV LEDs operating in the germicidal wavelength range from 30 mW up to 100 mW. At present, this level of single chip performance is not yet available in SETI's production LEDs, high power UV LED lamps are available under the UVCLEAN® trademark with germicidal powers up to 50 mW.

Philips has released the LED TV Econova with a diagonal 42-inch (42PFL6805), reaching a record low - 40 watts in eco-mode. It uses the latest version of LED lighting that reduces energy consumption by 60%. 

Imtra has completed its sixty-four highly-efficient Imtra LED recessed down lights installation at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, America. Its 5.5W and Hatteras 3.2W LED lights were selected to replace 20-watt halogen lights within all of the display cases throughout the Link Gallery exhibit. It's estimated that the Imtra LED fixtures, with their minimum 50,000-hour illumination life, will not require replacement for over thirteen years.

Apple launches its 27-inch LED Cinema Display. The LED display boasts 2560x1440 resolution, a 178-degree viewing angle, and a built-in MagSafe charger. The device connects to computers via a Mini DisplayPort. And there are three USB 2.0 ports on the back.

Japan Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) has raised its blue LED production capacity from 200 million units per month to 340 million units per month at its Chiba site. SDK made a trial run to secure product quality and stable operations after completion of expansion work in July, and has already started commercial operation.

JP Sercel Associates, Inc. Diodes Incorporated has designed the SBR1U400P1 super barrier rectifier to increase the efficiency of off-line LED drivers. It can be used in LED light bulbs, lighting ballasts, signage and street lighting. The SBR1U400P1 super barrier rectifier features a forward voltage some 25% lower than standard p-n diode alternatives. This 1A, 400V rated part suits both bridge, with a 120VAC input, and buck stages of driver circuits.

ON Semiconductor has launched a new one-channel Quad-Mode(TM) LED Driver, the CAT3661. With a patented architecture and integrates fault protection and fault diagnostics, the CAT3661 is designed to be used in ultra low power LED applications such as portable handheld medical equipment powered by coin cell batteries with a current of up to 5 mA.

The Dolby PRM-4200 professional reference monitor has used OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' Ceramos MultiLED devices.   OSRAM's 1,536 RGB LED's blue, green and red chips are positioned so that the color combination exhibits the same appearance when viewed from various angles.

Panasonic has unveiled a new Viera Pure Line comes with shiny purple, satin silver and silky white, which appears different colors depending of the lighting in the room. They are available in four screen sizes (37", 32", 22" and 19"),the 2 smaller sizes come with a built-in iPod dock, while the 2 larger come with Panasonic's own Viera Cast service (complete with Skype).

Carmanah Technologies Corporation has supplied 52 solar LED flashing beacons to the City of Bethany, Oklahoma to improve the safety of the City's district school zones. And these beacons will be sold by local Carmanah distributor, Gades Sales Inc..   According to Carmanah, the R829 solar LED flashing beacon is designed specifically for school zone applications and features wireless communication between beacons, an easy-to-use calendar program for activation, and maintenance-free operation for up to five years.

Toshiba launched new Cinema Series for 2010 includes the WX800 line of 3D LED HDTVs. The WX800 3D series is compatible with Blu-ray 3D specifications, and requires 3D glasses manufactured by Toshiba. They are available in 55-inch and 46-inch sizes and Toshiba boasts the line as their "most meticulously designed and engineered [HDTV] to date."

Sensor Electronic Technology, Inc.(SETI) has received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II award which is worth of  $475,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop water disinfection units based on solid state deep ultraviolet LEDs. According to the SBIR program, SETI will design, develop, fabricate and demonstrate advanced all-LED water treatment units with reduced power consumption and extended reliability.

Future Electronics has cooperated with Montreal-based McGill University in student engineering projects, which relates to four lighting and renewable energy projects designed by 41 engineering students as part of their senior-year course requirements.   One of the projects won the Mechanical Engineering department's annual Harry Pearce Prize used 48 neutral white LUXEON® Rebel LEDs to illuminate an underground train station platform.

Acer has unveiled AT58 LED TV series with Pininfarina design. The new TVs are equipped with backlit LED panels, features slightly curved edges, ultra-thin profile and transparent frame with the logo designed by Pininfarina and the lustrous platform and they also allows energy saving of 68% compared with the traditional LCD monitors.

BenQ launched 16:9 full HD VA-panel LED monitors, the 24-inch - EW2420 and VW2420 LED's and the 21.5 inch VW2220. Compared to a regular Twisted Nematic (TN) panel before notable brightness and color shifts, the monitors offer wider viewing angle (178º/178º), so they can be used along more angles.   The EW and VW series also feature true 3,000:1 native contrast ratio on a true 8-bit panel.
