LG Display of South Korea has exhibited an LCD panel whose color gamut was expanded by using quantum-dot LEDs for the backlight at SID 2010.

SmartFader is now available in North America providing customizable interactive LED flooring and wall tiles. TAL North America announced the availability of the SmartFader interactive floor lighting system for the North American market.  An instant hit at Light+Building in Frankfurt this April, the SmartFader utilizes LED technology in recessed “tiles” which will interact with their environment and is suitable for floor or wall applications.  

Diodes Incorporated has announced a multi-topology LED driver IC designed to increase the reliability of high brightness lamps in automotive, industrial, and commercial lighting systems. The ZXLD1370 LED driver controller operates in buck, boost, and buck-boost modes. It combines patent pending control loops and high-side current sensing to ensure accurate current control of LED strings.

Taiwan’s TV brands as Tatung, Teco, Chimei, BenQ and Heran will introduce new LED-backlit TVs to meet expected surging demand in the second half of 2010.

Computex Taipei 2010, the largest B2B professional computer exhibition in Asia and the second largest in the world, will be held at the Taipei World Trade Center from June 1 to June 5 2010. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Sunon, which also coincides with the 30th anniversary of Computex Taipei.

Sony now shows off its new flexible OLED display that is 4.1-inches and just 80 μm thick. The screen is able to display the image even when fully rolled up and can be rolled around a pen or pencil in the office. Sony said the screen can provide 432×240 pixel resolution, but there are no plans to release it to market.

GE Lighting Solutions has introduced its new white Tetra(R) MAX LED Lighting Systems. Similar to the existing Tetra MAX LED line, the white color LEDs evenly illuminate medium-size channel letters with minimal installation effort, but now offer 43 percent more lumens per foot and a 43 percent wider viewing angle than the previous generation.

Cree, Inc., announces that the University of Central Florida (UCF) has joined the Cree LED University(R) program with the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting in the student union. UCF estimates it can save at least $10,000 a year in energy and maintenance costs in the Key West Ballroom simply by replacing recessed downlights and troffers with energy-efficient Cree LR6(TM) LED downlights and LR24(TM) LED troffers.

Philips Electronics NV launches a new range of consumer lighting products in North America include LED Line. Lighting products include a fixture and are intended for other applications, such as recessed-can lighting. Many of the announcements were made earlier this month at the Lightfair International convention in Las Vegas.

Vanity, a high profile nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, has a stunning, custom-made chandelier made up of 20,000 LED points driven by a Martin Maxedia Compact media server. The Maxedia media server drives 25 universes of pixelmapped Artnet output across the chandelier, creating highly unique floating graphic effects with a unique three-dimensional feel.

Cree, Inc. plans to demonstrate a variety of new GaN HEMT RF packaged amplifier and switch products at the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (Booth #836) to be held in the Anaheim Convention Center May 25 through May 27, 2010. The products to be demonstrated include a SPDT MMIC switch (300 MHz to 3 GHz); a 25 W MMIC power amplifier (10 MHz to 6 GHz); a 75 W MMIC power amplifier (2.7 to 3.5 GHz); and a 240 W transistor (2.9 to 3.5 GHz).

Edison Opto has introduced a new energy-saving product - LED high low bay module in 2009, to satisfy market demands, Edison Opto developed four different angles of the high low bay in order to satisfy various market demands, such as 40°, 60°, 90°, 120° and the floodlight.

Recently, Westinghouse is launching a new lineup of LED-backlit LCD TV that ranges from 24 inches up to 55 inches. Starting at $299 and available in the third quarter, the 24-inch LD-245 is a 1080p model that the company says consumes less energy than a 40-watt light bulb.

Lithonia Lighting, an Acuity Brands company based in Atlanta, Georgia USA, has introduced the new product RTLED and announced that Lithonia Jumps into LED lighting market. RTLED is a volumetric recessed luminaire that delivers ambient white light throughout an entire space. RTLED boasts 50,000 hours of light without having to replace lamps or ballasts, thereby reducing downtime.

BetaLED, a division of Ruud Lighting Inc., expands its industry-leading LED luminaire portfolio with a new line of interior architectural downlights, linear and cove lighting luminaires for commercial and high-end residential use. BetaLED showcased the Essentia product line at LIGHTFAIR® International, an industry tradeshow held at the Las Vegas Convention Center May 12 through 14 in BetaLED booth 1031.

PowerSecure International, Inc. has unveiled a new LED based area light for utilities, and has already received its first order. The new light is used to illuminate streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure served and owned by utilities and municipalities.

The President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou has announced that following the installation of LED traffic lights throughout Taiwan by the end of this year, the government will start to substitute LED street lights for existing 1.3 million traditional models from next year, as a prelude of the adoption of LED light at all government offices.

At Lightfair 2010 in Las Vegas, Booth 746, Cree are relaunching their Raye fixture, which is now based on Cree MX-6 LEDs. Cree’s the XLamp® MX-6 LED with higher maximum forward drive current. At 1 A of current, XLamp MX-6 LEDs provide up to 300 lumens in cool white (6500 K) and 245 lumens in warm white (3000 K). The MX-6’s PLCC package is optimized for indoor lighting where enhanced light uniformity and LED-to-LED color consistency is important.

Osram Sylvania has introduced a general-purpose LED light designed to replace screw-in incandescent, halogen, or compact fluorescent bulbs. The company said that it is working on a 75-watt replacement which is an LED.

GE's new Energy Smart(R) 9-watt LED bulb operates differently, distributing light like a traditional 40-watt incandescent bulb while delivering excellent light output over its 25,000-hour rated life. they are on retail store shelves later this year.

Lemnis Lighting has introduced an LED bulb called the Pharox 500, which puts out 500 lumens of light and can be used as a more efficient bulb for traditional home lighting tasks.

Royal Philips Electronics has launched an LED bulb that will be mass-produced as a replacement for the common 60-watt light bulb.

Toshiba Corporation and Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) of Japan, will launch the innovative E-Core(TM) LED product line to extend the North American lighting market. The E-Core(TM) line along with E-Core(TM) prototype technologies for the global market, which include the lighting industry's brightest LED products, are being unveiled at LIGHTFAIR(R) International, May 12-14 in Las Vegas at booth number 1075.

Lighting Science Group is offering a new line of LED products, which are built in the USA, including A19, PAR38, PAR30, PAR20, MR16, and G25 bulb. The company claims that they have approximately 50 percent more lumens than competing products, at a dramatically lower retail price.

With an integrated lens, the new IR LED SFH 4236 exceeds the radiant intensity of the standard IR Dragon SFH 4232 by more than a factor of three. This new, powerful device has a very small form factor and adds depth to the well-known infrared Dragon family. The integrated lens concentrates the emitted infrared light within a viewing angle of +/-20° and achieves a typical radiant intensity of 650 mW/sr at a DC current of 1 A. The new infrared Dragon is well suited for applications with limited board space that require narrow radiation characteristics.
