LabelExpo 2009 in Brussels, Belgium from September 23rd-26th will see the unveiling of the first application of UV LED Curing technology for a flexographic label press. The system is designed and developed by Phoseon Technology and based on Phoseon's RX FireFlex architecture.

New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) Thursday joined The Climate Group and the Central Park Conservancy to unveil lampposts in Central Park equipped with newly installed energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs in order to assess their ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency and provide quality lighting.

East Japan Railway Co. will install blue LED lighting along Tokyo's Yamanote Line, in hope that the emotionally calming effect of blue light could make suicidal people think twice about jumping in front of trains, according to asahi.com. The lights will be installed at all 29 stations on the loop line by the end of October, a JR East official said.

Danville, Virginia, announces that it has joined the Cree LED City® program, an international initiative promoting the deployment of energy-efficient LED (light-emitting diode) lighting. Wataru Ito, a student at the Tokyo University of Arts, spent four years creating “Castle on the Sea,” a one-of-a-kind origami cityscape made of Kent paper. The 2.4 m x 1.8 m model, constructed using only a knife, glue and a hole punch, debuted on April 30th and won top prize at the University’s Grand Prix of Art Festival. Lexus of Albuquerque has selected Visible Light Solar Technologies, a solar/LED commercial lighting innovator, to retrofit its exterior lot lights at both its Albuquerque and Santa Fe dealerships following an initial pilot installation that yielded 82% energy savings.
