Philips Lumec Wednesday unveiled its newest product, the RoadStar™, a state-of-the-art LED luminaire designed specifically for large area, street, and roadway lighting applications. The RoadStar™ has the potential to reduce by 50% the amount of electricity a city/state/country uses for street and roadway lighting.

Panasonic Corporation Thursday unveiled new bulb-shaped LED (light-emitting diode) lamps, the latest addition to its EVERLEDS LED lighting products. The new line-up consisting of eight types of bulbs offers the industry's most energy-efficient, lightest and smallest LED bulbs. They also include the industry's first compact type LED bulbs and dimmable lamps.

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors released a new addition to its LED range: the Oslon MX ECE. This low-cost high-power ceramic component is intended for the front light clusters of mid-range vehicles – mainly as daytime running lights. This new LED is an important addition to OSRAM’s extensive product portfolio for the automotive sector.

Light-Based Technologies has developed an analog control circuit for a plurality of light sources. The company has been issued U.S. Patent No. 7,570,183 on August 4th, 2009 to protect this invention. According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, the invention relates to "a system of generation of multi-channel analog output signals, from a single analog input signal, and the controlled activation of peripheral devices responsive to the multi-channel analog output signals."

Xodtec Group USA, Inc. announced today that its Apollo series 180W LED streetlight product line has recently completed testing at the National Lighting Test Center (NLTC) in Beijing, China.  The test report indicates that the total lighting lumen of Apollo series 180W LED streetlight is 9800lm with power factor 0.97, which makes this product one of the most efficient LED street lighting systems in the world.

Recently, Nobuki Kurita, president of Sony’s marketing unit in Japan indicated that Sony’s 2009 year-end LCD TV sales in Japan is expected to grow by 50% compared to the same period last year.

LG Electronics (LG) announced the launch of three new TVs at IFA 2009. Samsung targets to sell at least 2 million LCD TVs with LED backlight in 2009 and at least 10 million units in 2010, according to a company executive. "We are aiming to sell at least 22 million (conventional) LCD television sets and at least 2 million LED televisions in 2009," said Yoon Boo-keun, president of Samsung's visual display division at a press conference ahead of IFA 2009 in Germany.

Veeco Instruments Inc. announced that Philips Lumileds Lighting a solid-state lighting industry pioneer, has selected Veeco’s TurboDisc® K465™ gallium nitride (GaN) Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) Systems to support its LUXEON LED production ramp. Veeco received a multi-system order for tools to be shipped to Philips Lumileds over the next two to three quarters.

The US ARMY has ordered multiple airfield lighting systems from Avlite Systems Inc to be installed at four forward operating airfields in northern Iraq. This order fulfills a critical requirement to ensure the ongoing safety and maintenance of these airfields by replacing other airfield lighting systems that have reached end of life. The Army will be using the more than 875 solar powered LED airfield lights on runways, thresholds, taxiways, apron edge, obstructions and helipads.

Spurred by an influx of orders for the 2010 World Expo Shanghai, LED maker Macroblock’s revenues surged 30% MoM to $4.26 million in August; the growth momentum is expected to extend through September. Macroblock’s third quarter revenues is expected to reach $12 million, a QoQ growth of 34%, which is far higher than the previous estimate of 10~15% growth released at the investor’s conference.
