The company WhiteOptics LLC in Newark has received $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop new technology: a highly reflective material that will improve efficiency, lifetime and cost for LED light fixtures. To reduce energy consumption and save money, Lewiston has installed five LED streetlights as part of a demonstration project. The streetlights are on loan to the city.
