Taiwan Market: Ledtech receives LED light bar orders from 200 Taiwan convenience stores

According to market sources, Taiwan LED packaging companyLedtech Electronics has received LED light bar orders for 200 Taiwan convenience stores. Throughout the convenience store chain, over the next 3-4 years, a total of 2,880 refrigerator lighting units will be replace to LED light bars. Ledtech won the first round of orders, while rivals including Coretronic, Zenitron and Advanced Optoelectronic Technology (AOT) are competing to enter the supply stream.

Chi Mei Steps Into Green Lighting Sector

Recently,Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. announced it would buy a 3.4% stake in China Electrical Mfg. Co., Ltd. and a 40% stake in TOA Optronics Co., Ltd., a China Electrical affiliate, for NT$850 million (US$28 million at US$1:NT$30).The acquisition makes Chi Mei the largest institutional shareholder of China Electrical, Taiwan`s No.1 lighting manufacturer, entitling it to hold seats on TOA`s board. TOA is 100% owned by China Electrical and produces cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) as well as hot cathode fluorescent lamps (HCFLs).

Star World's AMOLED module shipments surge

Because of strong demand from OEM clients, Taiwan-based Star World Technology's monthly shipments of small-size AMOLED modules have increased sharply to 100,000-200,000 units recently compared to the beginning of the year, according to the company.Star World said despite the present opaqueness shrouding the panel market, its shipments have see little affect. Star World remains optimistic about the small- to medium-size panel market in the second half of the year, during which utilization rate will come close to full capacity.

Taiwan PC case maker Casing Macron Technology reportedly crosses into the LED ODM market

According to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN),Taiwan PC case maker Casing Macron Technology has entered into the LED ODM industry.Casing Macron Technology received LED street lamp ODM orders from China Aerospace Science and Technology (CASC) and Hutchison Whampoa (HWL) for the China Guangshen highway project, and the paper estimates the revenue contribution from the projects will add NT$2-3 billion (US$65-98 million) to Casing Macron Technology 's annual revenues.

Formosa increases LED brightness for use in NB backlighting

According to market sources, LED chipmaker Formosa Epitaxy has successfully increased its LED brightness to meet the requirement for use in notebook backlighting applications, which is 1,800mcd.Formosa Epitaxy has achieved a blue LED brightness of 1,800mcd this quarter and the sources estimate Formosa Epitaxy will reach a brightness of 2,000mcd by year-end. Formosa Epitaxy is only the second Taiwan-based LED chipmaker to achieve a brightness of 1,800mcd. Epistar reached a brightnesss of 2000mcd in the first quarter of this year.

Traffic, street and park lights are the city's biggest users of electricity, accounting for 25 percent of electricity the city uses, Meyers said.The city is now in the middle of a three-year plan to replace all traffic lights with energy-efficient LED -- light-emitting diode -- lights and have replaced the lights at 10 intersections already, Clough said. Sony Launches Lower-energy Bravia LCD TV

According to PC World, Sony is adding to its Bravia LCD (liquid crystal display) TV range with a new 32-inch model that consumes considerably less power than existing sets. Based on an average of 4.5 hours of viewing per day the set will consume 86kWh (kilowatt hours) of power versus 115kWh for Sony's existing 32-inch Bravia model. That's a 25 percent reduction in annual power consumption.

SKorea's LG Group to offer LED light tubes in Japan

It's reported that South Korean conglomerate LG Group plans to launch an LED light tube series in Japan in July, the Nikkei newspaper reported on Thursday without citing sources.The product, E-Tube, was developed to easily fit into fluorescent lighting equipment commonly used in Japan.LG group's information technology services unit LG CNS Co. has been selling LED light bulbs in South Korea, but decided to develop LED tubes for the Japanese market as an alternative to fluorescent light tubes.

June 19, 2008... Osram Opto Semiconductors Asia Ltd. (Osram) reported the formation of a new partnership with Shenzhen SED Industry Co., Ltd. to launch an LED street lamp project in Mainland China. New DLP Home Theater Projectors Use LEDs

Texas Instruments yesterday announced a new technology that could dramatically change the perception and appeal of front projectors. Its new Brilliant Color DLP chipset works with a PhlatLight Light Emitting Diode (LED) light source to produce images. Traditionally, DLP projectors relied on a color wheel and mirror design, which would produce color images in conjunction with a lamp light source.
