The facility managers of Terminal One at San Francisco International Airport in California wanted to give the high-volume concourse a modern and forward-thinking look. The terminal, which serves AirTran, Alaska Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and US Airways, had illumination issues caused by aging four-tube linear fluorescent troffers. The check-in stations were not properly lit and had poor illumination on work surfaces where agents process paperwork. The overall terminal looked dim and muted.

What can we learn from the recent NVC Lighting’s power struggle between company founder Wu Changjiang and Elech-Tech International (ETI) CEO Wang Donglei? According to a recent report from Tencent, the dramatic transition of power and management reflects how Chinese companies operate differently from the West.

The LED industry showed stable growth in first half of 2014, with conventional peak season arriving in 3Q14, many LED manufacturers July 2014 revenues set new historical records including listed companies Everlight, FOREPI and Lextar. Lextar Electronics Corp (Lextar) today reported consolidated revenue for the second quarter of 2014 of NT$ 3.8 billion (US $130 million), up 17.7 percent from previous quarter. Consolidated gross margin was 14.5 percent, with a 2 percent QoQ growth. Net profit for 2Q 2014 was NT$ 163 million; a basic EPS for 2Q was NT$ 0.32.

Cree, a market leader in LED lighting, today announced revenue of US $436 million for its fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, ended June 29, 2014. This represents a 16 percent increase compared to revenue of US $375 million reported for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013, and an 8 percent increase compared to the third quarter of fiscal 2014. GAAP net income for the fourth quarter was US $30 million, or US $0.24 per diluted share, an increase of 6 percent year-over-year compared to GAAP net income of US $28 million, or US $0.23 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013.
