Taiwan LED manufacturers were very active at this year’s Light+Building 2014 show that took place in Frankfurt, Germany last week. The main theme of Taiwanese manufacturers at the show was LED technology. Some major technology highlights included flip chip LED, Alternating Current (AC) Driver-on-Board (DoB) Chip-on-Board (COB) modules.

China has been a major player on the global stage for quite some time. It therefore comes as no surprise that the country’s many lighting manufacturers would be at the Light+Building 2014 show organized by Messe Frankfurt in full force last week. 

Smart lighting has become the trump card  for manufactures who want to give themselves an edge in the market. Large manufacturers including Philips, Osram, Samsung, and LG all showcased their newest smart lighting products at Light+Building 2014. The idea that anything is possible through smart lighting was evident at this year’s exhibition in Frankfurt. 

Korean manufacturers including Samsung, LG, Seoul Semiconductor, Woree and Lumens were huddled in Hall 6 of Light + Building 2014 show that recently took place in Frankfurt, Germany. These Korean manufacturers displayed their latest LED packages, LED smart controllers, and new OLED products.

LG Innotek, a leading global electronics components manufacturer, will showcase more than 100 LED products at the Light + Building 2014 trade show in Frankfurt, Germany from March 30 to April 4, 2014.

The biennial Light+Building trade fair in Frankfurt has come to a close today, with over 2,300 exhibitors in attendance and close to 200,000 visitors. LEDinside Research Roger Chu shared his insight while at the show, observing the trends and innovative products showcased. Stand outs included Philips, Osram, Edison Opto, Toshiba, and Zumtobel.

Royal Philips and Aruba signed a Memorandum of Innovation, a strategic partnership to help the island of Aruba meet its goal of running on 100 percent sustainable energy by 2020, enabled by Philips’ lighting and innovation expertise. It will also transform Aruba into a showcase of innovation in the region. 

Nanostructures half the breadth of a DNA strand could improve the efficiency of light emitting diodes (LEDs), especially in the “green gap,” a portion of the spectrum where LED efficiency plunges, simulations at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) have shown.

On the occasion of the Light+Building light fair, the Osram stand will be showing project partners how to further exploit the possibilities of light with lighting systems, light projects and various solutions and services. Light+Building is the leading light fair, taking place from 30 March to 4 April in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Osram is located at Light+Building in Hall 2 ("Alte Festhalle").

Located at Hall 4.0, lampholder and connector manufacturer BJB displayed its latest connectors, lampholders and automated equipment, at Light + Building 2014 in Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Germany. 

Taiwan Semiconductor Lighting Company (TSLC) is developing packaging based on hybrid technology for wavelengths that range from UV lights with invisible short wavelengths to visible light with long wavelengths of blue, green, red, and IR. Most of the company’s products are packaged on ceramic substrates and they have control over various ceramic substrate layout technology. 

Unity Opto March consolidated revenue grew 25 percent from February on the back of increased lighting and backlighting demands. Working days returning to normal in March allowed the Taiwanese LED package manufacturer to meet client order deadlines after Chinese New Year. The company’s indoor bulb order volume remains high.

Zumtobel announced plans of slashing 600 jobs, about 8 percent of its workforce to double operating profit margin by 2016 to 2017 and stay competitive against Asian manufacturers, according to a Reuters report.

German lighting manufacturer Osram Licht will be facing more challenges in 2014 as the company restructures its lighting business, according to a report by Reuters.

Toshiba highlighted several Chip Scale Package products  at the  Light + Building 2014 show that runs from March 31 to April 4, 2014 at Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Germany.

Market listed companies have released their March revenue reports this week with the LED industry coming out on top, according to an article by Economic Daily News. LED manufacturers had unusually good performance in January and February, a traditionally slack season for the industry. The growth trend continued into the peak season where it picked up pace in March. Order visibility already extended to 3Q14. The second half of this year is anticipated to be smooth for the industry. 

Genesis Photonics Inc. (GPI) has been devoted to developing flip-chip packaging recently. The Taiwanese LED chip manufacturer built a flip-chip package production line in 2013 to strengthen product integration.
