Dragon Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam

Being opened to traffic on March 29th, 2013, the Dragon Bridge, which was designed by the US-based Ammann & Whitney Consulting Engineers with Louis Berger Group, is the second bridge run across the Hàn River. The bridge is shaped as an eastern dragon and illuminated by Philips luminaires so it looks like a true dragon surfing on the water.

Medical UV LED is Next Hot R&D Field

Ultraviolet (UV) light usually are light waves with 100 to 280 nanometer (nm) wavelengths, according to a report by Chinese-language newspaper Science and Technology Daily. These lights are mostly used to kill germs, used medically, and in biochemical tests. At the same time, UV LEDs advantages have inspired many new consumer electronics to adopt these applications, for example in white household appliances disinfection modules, portable water purification systems, smartphone disinfection and others. LEDinside:LED Bulb Retail Price Steadily Declines in October, Shipment Volume Anticipated to Exponentially Increase in 2014

According to market intelligence organization Trendforce's LEDinside division's newest LED bulb retail findings for October 2013, global 40W equiv LED bulb ASP dipped 2.3 percent to US $15.8 (NT $466), with price decline most evident in the UK region. Conversely, global 60W equiv LED bulb ASP rose slightly 1.2 percent to US $21.6.

European Patent Office Issues Decision Regarding Universal Display's Organometallic Iridium Patent

Universal Display Corporation, enabling energy-efficient displays and lighting with its UniversalPHOLED(R) technology and materials, today announced that the European Patent Office (EPO) issued a decision on the previously-disclosed appeal of a prior ruling relating to the Company's European Patent No. 1449238 (the EP '238 patent). The EPO panel revoked the patent previously allowed by the lower EPO, which had upheld the broadest claim of coverage for organometallic iridium device architectures. The opposing parties included Sumitomo Chemical Company, Merck Patent GmbH and BASF SE.

Unusual LED Tail Lights for Horses

Sammi Gros has invented a new type of LED “Tail Lights.” They are not your usual LED tail lights for automotive applications, but six LED double sided strands clipped to horse tails. According to Kickstarter’s product introduction, Gros decided to launch safety lights for equestrian lovers after being hit by a car during a riding trip with a friend four years ago. The safety lights for horses aims to help avoid potential motor accidents for riders.
