LEDinside:Mid-power LED prices drop by 1.7% in 3Q13 as shortage eases; strong demands cause smartphone LED application prices to slightly fall 3-6%

Mid-power LED shortages eased in 3Q13, due to increasing LED suppliers, according to LEDinside, an LED research division of international research organization TrendForce. High-power LED prices dropped in 3Q as outdoor lighting demands and construction bidding projects fell below market expectations in 2Q, and impacts from advances of mid-power LEDs , such as 5630 package (PKG) and 3030 PKG threatens the high-powered LED market share. Both uncertainty surrounding China’s new energy-saving appliance subsidies and high inventory levels in distribution channels have caused the LED price for TV application to drop. However, LED for mobile applications have a positive 3Q outlook due to increasing smartphone shipments and introduction of two in one package.

In line with the Financial Results for the first half of 2013 HC SemiTek recently released, its total revenue is 112 million Yuan, decrease of 40.42 percent compared to the same period of last year. The net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies is 14.29 million Yuan, down 61.47 percent over the same period of last year. Mitsubishi and Pioneer Establishes a New Company to Handle OLED Sales in Japan

Mitsubishi and Pioneer have established a new company called MC Pioneer OLED Lighting (MPOL). The registered capital of the new company was one hundred and fifty million yen, and the two companies each contributed 50%. The new company will handle OLED lighting marketing and sales in Japan. MPOL offers Verbatim's Velve color-tunable OLED lighting panels that jointly made by Mitsubishi and Pioneer. Taiwan LED Packaging Manufacturer Everlight Still Leads the Pack with 2Q Results

The financial report recently published for Taiwan LED manufacture 2Q performance shows LED packaging manufacturers are fairing far better than the majority of wafer manufacturers whom are still in a state of deficit. Among seven packaging manufactures on the market all experienced gains this quarter aside from Bright LED Electronics Corp and Harvatek whom had profit loss of NT$0.07 and NT$0.44. Edison Otp and PARA Light were able to turn their profits around this quarter, and Everlight still was able to maintain a good performance with EPS NT$ 0.9, keeping their top spot.

Starting from 2012-2014, bans on incandescent lights has led to the gradual entry of LED products in the residential lighting markets, according to a latest search report by LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce. Improved LED luminous efficacy and lowered LED product prices contributed to higher consumer acceptance levels and rising penetration rates. Public-private partnership between Illuminate the Arts, CalTrans & artist Leo Villareal turns bridge into The Bay Lights sculpture: 4.5 miles of LED supported by solar; spurs local economy In a shining example of public-private partnership, The Bay Lights, the new LED lighting system for the Bay Bridge that was developed by Philips Color Kinetics, has been gone to live since May. Fulfilling the brainchild of Ben Davis, chairman of Illuminate the Arts (ITA) and the vision of acclaimed artist Leo Villareal, the bridge will become a one-of-a-kind lighted sculpture for the next two years. Installed with the support of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the bridge is expected to be viewed by over 50 million people and bring nearly USD$ 100 million in revenue to the local San Francisco economy.
