The 2013 Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) was held by HKTDC at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for four consecutive days. This grand exposition has gathered more than 1,000 exhibitors from 12 different countries, and it was also the first time for exhibitors from Finland, Greece, India, Macau and the UK to participate in this exposition.  The two new exhibitions at this year’s lighting fair--“Hall of Display World” and “World of Chandeliers” provided buyers with more options and enabled them to find more suitable products and suppliers.

Beginning this week, Utilities Kingston will be replacing 9,000 high wattage street light heads with LED fixtures to reduce energy use. The project is city wide and expected to be largely completed by the end of 2013 at a cost of $4 million. Osram Ostar Stage LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors offer high luminance of 48 million candelas per square meter (Mcd/m²) and tunable color tones from cold white to warm white. Combined with their extremely low-profile design and glass cover with its anti-reflective coating, they provide the basis for compact spotlights with an extremely narrow beam. This LED is ideal for use in moving head spotlights on stage, for booth lighting at trade fairs and for architectural lighting.   The special feature of the new LED is its tunable white light color. Two warm-white and two cold-white chips, arranged diagonally in the package, not only enable colors to be mixed perfectly at component level but also allow all white tones between color temperatures of 2700 Kelvin (K) (warm white) and 10,000 K (cold white) to be produced with appropriate control. Panasonic Corp of Osaka, Japan has developed a GaN-based power transistor with a blocking voltage of 600V that enables stable switching operations. Shipment of evaluation samples began in March.
