According to LEDinside’s latest price trend report, the growing shipment in LED backlight and lighting application led to a shortage in the chip supply. As a result, the white LED prices remained flat in 4Q09: Prices for backlighting dropped slightly by 1-3%, while prices of high power LEDs remained stable.

Ruud Lighting Inc. today announced settlement in a copyright infringement lawsuit against Elcast Lighting, Inc. of Addison, Illinois. Ruud Lighting’s complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, alleged that Elcast Lighting illegally distributed promotional sales brochures containing large portions of BetaLED copyrighted works, even including copying a registered brand (THE EDGE®) to customers and representatives.

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) announces that it is joining the Cree LED University® program, an international community of universities working to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient LED lighting across their campuses. College officials recently retrofitted a six-story, 900-vehicle parking garage, replacing high-pressure sodium lights with LED lighting products from BetaLED®.
