Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) will host the 4th npower Ashes Test starting on 7th August 2009. All the hard-fought action will be replayed on Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground’s new giant 102m2 digiLED Ld10S screen. The 16m (w) x 6.4m (h) screen replaces the previous scoreboard and is the largest LED video display in a UK sports venue.

Celebrating two decades of lighting excellence in New York, LFI 2009 offered the most robust trade show and conference in its 20-year history.  LFI 2009 increased attendance by 8.5% and exhibit booths by 6% from LFI 2007 in New York.

Dialight Corporation is set to introduce its first LED high bay luminaire which has been designed exclusively to replace conventional high bay lighting solutions in interior and exterior industrial, commercial and hazardous location applications.

Taiwan’s leading panel vendor AU Optronics plans to fully-adopt LED backlight for all NB panels shipped before the end of 2010; penetration of LED backlight in its internal monitor shipments is expected to reach 10 ~ 15%. In 2010, the estimated global LED TV penetration may hit 10%. Dr L.J. Chen, CEO of AUO, indicated that as a result of strong demand for LED panels, tighter supply of LED chips is expected in 2010.

Samsung has recently released the LED based SyncMaster XL2370 monitor in Korea. It's a 23” monitor with a Full HD resolution, Samsung’s TOC or Touch Of Color, a stunning 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 2ms response time. The Samsung XL2370 is Samsung’s highest performance display and the first to incorporate LED technology, giving the model a super-slim profile and significant energy-saving benefits.

Samsung Electronics on July 24 posted an impressive set of its second quarter earnings. For the three months through June, operating profits were just over $2 billion, a fivefold increase on the first quarter and up 5% from a year earlier. The total revenue was $26 billion, up 13.4% from the first quarter and 11.7% from the same period last year.

Blinx has introduced new sound responsive LED earphones, reports Ubergizmo. The earphones are equipped with a control box which enables the LED to pulse according to the tune of the music being played. Each of these earphones and the central control box includes three blue LED lights. These earphones are compatible with any device housing a standard 3.5mm jack. Apparently, the earphones are powered by two ZA13HP batteries. The Blinx earphones are also said to bundle up foam earbud protectors and instruction leaflet.

Since power supply companies ventured into the LED field, vendors have been optimistic about the outlook for market demand in 3Q09, according to industry sources. Lite-On Tech. (2301.tw) Chairman Song Kung-Yuan said that orders have been increasing quarter after quarter, and compared to the relatively low profit base in 1Q09, 2Q09 profit appeared to have “grown exponentially.”

Sony X5500 LED TVs are set to launch September or October this year and are expected to be exhibited for the first time on the big consumer electronics fair IFA 2009 in Berlin this September. According to the FlatpanelsHD site, X5500 will feature a LED backlight with local dimming, which means that LEDs are located behind the LCD panel and can be controlled in a number of zones, just like on the Philips LED Lux model.

Encapsulation is generally adopted in packaging of lamp-LEDs. The encapsulation procedure is to pour liquid epoxy into the LED moulding chamber first, and then insert the LED bracket that has undergone the press welding, then put the mould into the oven, and the LED gets shaped when the epoxy solidifies. Cree, Inc. announces that Fairview, Texas, has joined the LED City® initiative, an international program that promotes the deployment of energy-efficient LED lighting. The newly constructed, four-lane Fairview Parkway, designed specifically to be lit with LEDs, features 82 LED street lights from EvoLucia, a division of Sunovia Energy Technologies, Inc.

Wavien, Inc. today announces that its patented Premien LED projector technology produces output in excess of 200 lumens using a single white, 50 W LED. The output efficiency of Premien technology, which is currently available for portable projector applications, is up to two times higher than the competing LED technologies. Wavien continues to optimize the system performance of projectors using Premien technology and expects that next-generation performance will increase to over 300 lumens.

Researchers at the University of Connecticut have made a new material that emits bright white light by adding fluorescent dyes to DNA and then spinning the DNA strands into nanofibers, according to a paper published online in the journal Angewandte Chemie. The researchers create white-light-emitting devices by coating ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with the material. They are even able to fine-tune the white color tone to make it warm or cold.

The City of Danville is likely to become the first LED city in Virginia, the United States. City officials say that the city has received a 50 thousand dollar grant for it to switch to new LED lights in different parts of the city. LEDs use less energy, last longer and are more environmentally friendly. So far, they've been installed at the water plant, and at the adult detention center.

Consideration for the asset purchase of these businesses consisted of 2,469,676 shares of LSI's unregistered common stock, cash of $1,328,000, and assumed indebtedness of $3,526,000. Since the first light bulb was invented in the 1800’s new lamp technology has evolved. When the fluorescent tube was invented in 1929, sales of traditional light bulbs plummeted, and then in the 1970’s along came the compact fluorescent, since then new variations have evolved, sales of the former types have virtually disappeared, but the fundamental lamp design has remained unchanged, using a heating element to ignite gases and produce light. The use of a heating element results in energy being wasted as heat as opposed to generating light.
