Recently, Sunovia Energy Technologies, Inc., a renewable energy and energy conservation company, has acquired the exclusive rights to patents that allow it to expand its existing product offering into the extended-life and security LED lighting markets.

Although the advantage of using LED light bulbs is “Saving Energy”; its current market price and energy-saving effect still cannot compete with the compact fluorescent lamp’s. Yet, if the luminous efficiency of LED light bulbs can reach 80 lumens and its price can decrease by 40%, the cost of LED light bulb can catch up with that of the compact fluorescent lamp. In terms of the current production process of LED manufacturers, the demand of LED light bulbs will probably dramatically increase by 2010.

To analyze it by the approach of cost variancesIn order to investigate how much energy will be saved by using compact fluorescent lamps and LED light bulbs, “LEDinside” has conducted a survey on the prices and specifications of compact fluorescent lamps and LED light bulbs. Some incandescent lamps have also been used for in-depth comparison. The comparable standards include “luminous efficiency”, “ power cost”, “lamp cost”, and the “total cost”.

In order to reduce the greenhouse gas and cope with the problems rising from high oil prices and high energy consumption, many countries have announced new regulations in relation to using the high efficiency and cost saving light sources in replacement of incandescent lamps. Hopefully, attain the goal of saving energy and reducing the emission of CO2.

Recently, Cree, Inc. announced the opening of the Cree Shenzhen Engineering Center in Shenzhen, China. This technical education center is dedicated to training lighting product designers and manufacturers in best practices for LED lighting product design and construction.

Recently, LED International Holdings Ltd. said it is buying New Shenzhen, a Chinese LED products maker, for HK$5.5 million cash and shares. That is that it will pay HK$3.0 million cash over three years and issue 16 million new shares.

It’s reported that China Display Technologies, Inc., a leading China-based optoelectronics manufacturer specializing in small-medium and large-sized LED and CCFL backlight units for LCD displays, announced it has formed a technical team to work in conjunction with the Guangdong Flat Panel Industry Association, a semi-governmental institution actively involved in drafting the standards for the High Power LED lighting industry in China.

It’s reported that Sony tried to wow visitors with its new flat screens and sound systems at a demo show in London, but star of the show was undoubtedly the 11in OLED TV.Showing just standard definition content, the 3cm thick screen gave fantastic realistic colours and a definition that many HD equipment would be envious of. It boasts a contrast ratio of (at least) 1,000,000:1.

LED lumen attenuation is the weakening of the light signal during transmission. LED products made by global leading manufacturers at the present stage have lumen attenuation in different grades after used for a period of time and this phenomenon also exists in high power LEDs. Then, what causes LED attenuation? Lumen attenuation is directly related to the temperature, and is mainly determined by the chip, phosphor used and the packaging technology. At present, lumen attenuation has become the chief problem for white LED to march into civil lighting field.

Recently Premier Liu Chao-hsuan announced the government would promote an energy policy to develop energy technologies. It’s reported that the government would encourage changing the remaining 460,000 incandescent traffic lights islandwide to LED types, replacing all the incandescent lamps at government organizations with compact fluorescent lamps, and install solar hot water panels in 140,000 residences over the next four years. The government is estimated to spend NT$1-2 billion on LED traffic-light investments.

It's reported that traffic lights across Bahrain will be equipped with devices to make sure they are not knocked out during power cuts. A single optic is easily affixed to a linear array of LEDs already assembled on a PCB board, resulting in fast, low-cost assembly that reduces the footprint required for the LED lighting system in a luminaire.

It's reported that one of the greatest obstacles to increased adoption of OLED lighting is that current technology. The usual OLED lighting emits only 20 percent of the light generated, and the rest remains trapped inside the device, wasted.

It's reported that Purdue University researchers have found a way to reduce some of the cost of creating LED lighting, a find that could lead to more cost-efficient lighting.The research was reported in an article this month in the journal Applied Physical Letters. Timothy Sands, professor of materials engineering, and computer and electrical engineering, led the team that included graduate students Mark H. Oliver, Jeremy L. Schroeder, David A. Ewoldt, Isaac H. Wildeson, Robert Colby, Patrick R. Cantwell and Vijay Rawat, along with assistant professor Eric A. Stach.

Recently, the Sentry Equipment Corp. in Oconomowoc, Wis., was considering how to light its new factory, the company's president, Michael Farrell decided to try LEDs. At last he chose to light the building's exterior and most of its interior with LEDs, a light source that many bulb manufacturers are now convinced will supplant incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs.

According to analysts at the Darnell Group market research firm in Corona, Calif, LED will rapidly accelerate over the next few years in general illumination applications.
