Global LED Lamp Prices Downtrend in June, Top Brands Lower Prices as Market Heats Up

The global 40W equiv. LED lamps Average Selling Price (ASP) dropped 2.7% to USD 15.6 in June 2013, according to a recent LED lamp retail survey by LEDinside, a research subsidiary of TrendForce. Overall regional market prices continued to fall steadily, in which China’s decline was the most evident. Global ASP dipped 1.6% to USD 23.4.

LEDinside:The average price of global LED light bulb steadily decreases, large manufacturers focus more on the residential lighting market

According to the updated LED light bulb sales price which investigated by LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce, the ASP of the 40W equiv. LED light bulbs declined by 1% in May (2013), reaching USD16. The most obvious price reduction was occurred in Taiwan. The ASP of the 60W equiv. LED light bulbs declined by 0.1% to USD23.8. The price was unstable in all regions with less renewing products.

LEDinside:Medium-power LED for lighting applications are in short supply, declines by only 1%; LED for TV backlight declines by approximately 2~4% due to China’s policies

According to LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce, the Q2 supply for medium-power LED for lighting applications remains unstable. While the current market demand still came from warm white LED, the shortage situation won’t be eased until July. Hence, the price of medium-power LED for lighting application has declined by 1~3% in this quarter and that of high-power LED has declined by 3% as well. With backlight applications being impacted by the lack of strong demand and the Chinese government’s subsidy on TV market has been ended, TV manufacturers are conservative about the 3Q13 stock, and are less willing to place long term purchase orders. Overall, the prices of LEDs for backlight applications showed a slight decrease, which are below 5%.

According to LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce, retail prices for LED bulbs worldwide continue to have a downward trend this year for April. Worldwide retail price for 40W equiv. LED bulbs dropped by 5.7%, reaching 16.1 USD. Newly added items in the markets were few. 60W equiv. LED bulb price also experienced a decline, with a worldwide average drop of 1.2%, reaching 23.8 USD. The ASPs in most areas maintained a stable decrease, except for China and Taiwan where the high prices of newly added products lead to an increase.

LEDinside:February 2013 LED Bulb Retail Prices Show Continuous Decline, 60W Equivalent LED Bulb Price Drops below $8.8 USD

According to market intelligence organization TrendForce’s LEDinside division’s newest LED bulb retail findings, the retail prices of LED bulbs all over the world have a downward trend this year for February. Worldwide 40W replacement LED bulb average retail price dropped by 8.2%, reaching 17.8 USD. This is due to the relatively low prices in the newly added Chinese and Taiwanese regions. Worldwide 60W replacement LED bulb average price in certain areas had a clear drop of 13%, reaching 25.7 USD. Aside from the slight drop in original statistical region price, the newly added Chinese and Taiwanese regional prices are also comparatively lower.

ASP of TV Backlight LED Falls, Backlit LED Display Penetration Rate to Exceed 90% in 2013

According to LEDinside’s “Silver Member Report,” in 1Q13 LED price for monitor backlight application fell by approximately 4%-8%, whereas LED price for TV application dropped by 3%-9%. Affected by the price cut by Korean manufacturers, average price of high power LED for lighting applications fell by 6%-9% this quarter. With the price drop continuing, the total number of LED backlights applied to middle and large sized panels is expected to peak. LED backlight application has grown from 2012’s 70% to 92% in monitors, and from 70% to 90% in TVs.

According to LEDinside, a research division of Trendforce, investigation on the latest LED light bulb retail price showed that global LED light bulb retail price remained volatile in January 2013. The retail price of 40W equiv. LED lamps increased by 4% to USD19.4. Fewer new products were introduced in each region, and fluctuation in the price of original products increased. The average price of 60W equiv. LED lamp fell by 4.3% to USD29.6. Prices declined most significantly in the Japanese market.

September LED Bulb Price Dropped 3% Compared to August LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce, conducted price surveys on warm white LED light bulbs (replacements for 40W and 60W incandescent light bulbs), and the results showed that LED light bulb price in September took a dip of 3% compared to August, an indication that the downtrend persisted. Most notably, the LED bulb price for 40W replacement underwent the steepest drop in Japan and South Korea, while the price for 60W replacement experienced the biggest setback in Europe.
