Letizia Monico, a researcher at Antwerp University and Perugia University in Italy, has made in a doctoral thesis, turned out that light bulbs that emit a lot of blue light can damage paintings by art’s great masters. A few years ago researchers discovered that a chemical process made the chrome-yellow paint used by Vincent Van Gogh darker. Letizia Monico investigated the cause in her doctoral thesis. Philips has launched its next-generation A-19 bulb with a new design. Compared with the old yellow EnduraLED or the fluorescent L-Prize bulb, the 60-watt replacement has a white appearance and uses 11 watts while putting out 830 lumens.  It will be available in both Soft White or Daylight color temperatures when released. Philips Lighting plant in Bath has held a meeting on Wednesday, and told workers of the impending closure. It wasn't immediately clear when layoffs will begin, but the company told employees that the plant will close by the end of 2013, putting approximately 280 people out of work. Silvie Casanova, a Philips spokesperson, said the closure is the result of decreased demand for the lighting technology manufactured at the Bath plant. Siemens will cut $7.67 billion in costs by 2014 and will sell several assets,  in an effort to improve financial returns to shareholders, according to the Wall Street Journal.
