Royal Philips Electronics has posted a fourth-quarter loss due to a worse performance by its lighting, health care arms, as well as television business. The net loss for the October to December period was euro160 million ($211 million), compared with profit of euro465 million in the same period a year ago. Recently, GE Lighting expects most light bulbs, including the incandescent to be replaced within a decade by LED. Maryrose Sylvester, who was appointed GE’s head of the lighting unit in March, said in an interview, that “People are starting to talk about LEDs for general lighting for indoors. Recently, UK-based Energy Saving Trust (EST) has conducted a study which measured the performance of more than 4,250 LED light fittings installed at 35 sites in social housing.
