Philips Lighting has announced the first integrated, connected LED lighting system designed for recreational sports fields. The Philips PerfectPlay system enables recreational sports centers to reduce energy costs, simplify operations and maximize revenue potential, while providing better quality lighting for sportsmen and women. 

IKEA announced that its smart lighting series Trådfri, which was launched in Europe last fall, will be compatible with Apple’s HomeKit, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa by the end of this summer. With this upgrade, users can control their home lighting with voice commands. IKEA also plans to expand its product range in the coming years.

Merkury Innovations, designers of personal electronics and accessories that combine technology, aesthetics, and value, announced Google Assistant compatibility for its line of Geeni smart bulbs and smart plugs, building on its existing Amazon Alexa compatibility. Included is Geeni offering the first smart surge protector that works with Google Assistant to turn on or turn off each individual device plugged into the power strip.

LIGHTFAIR International (LFI) 2017 is held by Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) and International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). This year is LFI's 25th anniversary. LFI is currently the largest international lighting expo in the USA and attracts the most amount of visitors among international lighting expos. LFI is held once per year, and it takes turns being held in New York City, Philadelphia, and Las Vegas. LFI is the grand event of luminaire industry in the North America.

The long-awaited sale of LEDVANCE, originally the general lighting lamps business of German lighting giant Osram, to the Chinese investment consortium, consisting of the strategic investor IDG Capital, MLS, and Yiwu State-Owned Assets Operation Center (Yiwu), was finally completed on March 3, 2017. The 2017 Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS) and LED Taiwan 2017 were held in Taipei, Taiwan from April 12 to 15. The 4-day event, Taiwan International Lighting Show 2017, was held from 12th to 15th April at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre.
