Silvair announces that together with its partners it will be extending the range of lighting products supported by Silvair’s technology. An ecosystem of interoperable products unified by the Bluetooth mesh standard is, therefore, expanding to redefine the smart lighting experience in commercial spaces.

At TILS 2018, ITRI showcased applications including flexible OLED technology, an Energy Dome, and smart LED lighting able to detect failures. These applications offer insight into a next-generation lighting environment and highlight innovative LED and OLED technologies.

Nokia Bell Labs and Osram have teamed up to create the foundation of affordable, high-performance indoor radio networks. In a joint initiative the network specialist and the lighting company have been exploring how ceiling luminaires can be used to create a tightly integrated interior radio network with 5G capabilities. “Our office and industrial luminaires are already networked for remote control,” said Thorsten Müller, Head of Innovation at Osram. “In this R&D project, we equipped them with special broadband radio modules, allowing mobile devices like cell phones and laptops to connect to the luminaire network and transmit data.”

Philips Lighting has completed a large-scale project that uses connected LED architectural lighting to illuminate the facades of 37 buildings, along a 9.2 km stretch of road in the city center of Ningbo, China. The project, one of the largest of its kind, is aimed at boosting the city’s cultural heritage and tourism, as well as stimulating commercial activities in the city center. The 10th edition of the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) was held from 6-9 April by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). Light + Building 2018, the largest trade fair for lighting and building services technology in Europe, officially begins on March 18. For the next six days, 18-23 March, exhibitors at the show will showcase their state-of-the-art products and technologies, whether they are for lighting, communication, building automation, or automotive applications.

Philips Lighting finally made an announcement about the name change. It intends to change its name from Philips Lighting to Signify. The choice of the new company name originates from the fact that light becomes an intelligent language, which connects and conveys meaning.

Digital Lumens, an Osram company, expanded its SiteWorx building intelligence platform with the introduction of two new products: Sense, an environmental sensing application, and the DLA Micro (DLA-M), a small lighting control that also enables instant SiteWorx compatibility. Both products will be unveiled at Light + Building in Frankfurt, Germany, March 18-23, 2018.

Osram announced its Wireless Site Lighting Control (WSLC) Module, extending the ENCELIUM EXTEND Networked Light Management System capability to a building’s surroundings or site such as parking lots, pathways and private roadways. 

Power management company Eaton announced the launch of Halo Home, a Bluetooth mesh, smart lighting system that allows homeowners to automate and control one light or a host of lighting products throughout the home using a smart mobile device. A home can have more than 100 lighting products, and homeowners are turning to connected lighting products for better functionality, security and safety, as well as lifestyle enrichment and wellness.
