An LED driver NCL30001, which integrates PFC and isolated step-down AC-DC power conversion in a single stage, has been created by ON Semiconductor. It is designed to operate in CCM and can be configured as either a constant current or fixed output voltage driver for LED-based street lighting and architectural lighting applications of between 40W and 150W.

AIXTRON announced the financial results for the first half of 2010

AIXTRON did the positive business performance in H1/2010 due to the continuing healthy demand, beneficial volume effects, and a stronger US Dollar. Firstly, compared to H1/2009, the gross margin in H1/2010 was 10 percentage points higher at 53%. The H1/2010 operating result increased year on year by 769% to EUR 106.9m with a 19 percentage points higher EBIT margin of 31%, leading to a net result of EUR 74.1m or 21% return on sales. The H1/2010 net income was 742% up year on year.

Sony prototype 360-degree autostereoscopic display

Sony has developed a prototype 360-degree autostereoscopic display called RayModeler, allowing viewers to see full colour volumetric objects from 360-degree. And no special 3D glasses are needed to see the 3D images. It demonstrated this technology at the SIGGRAPH 2010 convention and the display uses special LED light sources showing 360 unique images to all directions in one-degree separations.

The city of 520,000 inhabitants on the Trans-Siberian Railway has installed 200 street luminaires made by LLC TD Focus, which are equipped with Golden DRAGON oval Plus LEDs. The city can therefore achieve significant savings in energy costs and CO2 emissions.

Marl has created a new 4.5W Citizen CL-L251 LED, which delivers 290 lumens of light output at a colour temperature of 3000K with good colour rendering "Ra85", equivalent to a standard 20W MR16 halogen. The range is available with colour temperatures up to 5000K, delivering up to 425 lumens from 4.5W. Compared to 16 lumens per watt for a halogen light,The CL-L251 has a luminous efficiency of up to 106 lumens per watt.
