Korean MEST increased blue LED efficiency by 30%

According to a document from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to the APEC regional audience, the Korean innovation plan for LED had made a success that the next generation InGaN blue light's efficiency was increased by 30 percent. The document gives an outline of how the results were achieved. The results, in terms of technical details were said to be because of zinc oxide nanorod optical waveguide effects.

ADI manufactured ADP1650 1500-mA white LED driver. It features like a programmable I²C-compatible interface, programmable torch and flash currents for one LED up to 1500 mA, two independent TxMASK1 inputs and a 4-bit ADC. It provides high efficiency at 85 percent at the typical battery voltage (90 percent peak). The ultra-compact ADP1650 measures only 2 mm × 1.5 mm in a 12-ball WLCSP package and reduces PCB requirements.

TSMC to set up new Taiwan plant

TSMC will set up a new plant with more than $9.4 billion in Taichung, Taiwan. The new plant has a total site area of 18.4ha and will have a building area of 430,000sqm and clean room area of 104,000sqm. It's reported to create 8,000 jobs over the next few years. Fab 15, in Taichung's Central Taiwan Science Park will be TSMC's third GigafabTM, or fab with capacity of more than 100,000 300mm wafers per month, and will also be TSMC's second GigafabTM equipped for 28nm technology.
