The LED lighting technology development has brought people even closer to nature. Signify, the Dutch lighting giant previously known as Philips, has provided Puerto de la Cruz, a city on the north coast of Tenerife, Canary Islands, with its smart street lightings which use special optics to decrease light spillage that intervene sky observation.

The City of London Corporation passed a project to set up kinetic light installation on 15 bridges on the River Thames as a free public artwork to emphasize the spirit of the river and its interconnections with the bridges and the city.

Philips Lighting has completed a large-scale project that uses connected LED architectural lighting to illuminate the facades of 37 buildings, along a 9.2 km stretch of road in the city center of Ningbo, China. The project, one of the largest of its kind, is aimed at boosting the city’s cultural heritage and tourism, as well as stimulating commercial activities in the city center. The new lighting installation at the university hospital in Poitiers, France supports the treatment of cancer patients in a special room thanks to human centric lighting. Planning for the new LED lighting system for the world’s largest church has entered its final phase: The lighting calculations and simulations have been successfully completed. In the basilica, the LED lighting system has been tested in many areas, and everyone involved is really pleased with the results. Tests show that the illumination level of the domes is 10 times brighter than before. The new indirect lighting system also eliminates unsightly drop shadows on the circular inscription, which is carved into the wall below the cornices of the basilica.

Respected as one of New York’s premier luxury real estate developers, Rockrose Development recently began work on the renovation of their property at 300 Park Avenue. Located in the prestigious Park Avenue submarket in Manhattan, the project renovation was to include the creation of a completely new rooftop, outdoor living experience. Wanting a dynamic visual display to be the focal point of the design, Rockrose Development called upon the team at VJVIT who installed an IP-65 rated FLEXStorm LED video display from PixelFLEX.

Philips Lighting has helped to transform the Czech Republic headquarters of energy company innogy, by installing an LED lighting system tuned to support the circadian rhythms of innogy’s office staff, including stimulating their energy levels at set times in the day. Employees enjoy a comfortable bright light, similar to natural daylight, to start their day and after lunch. This helps to stimulate energy levels, enhance workplace comfort and vision, supporting a sense of wellbeing and performance. The stimulus from the “human centric lighting” fixtures is likened to a strong cup of coffee.

Thousands of people turned out to watch Vector Lights bring Auckland's iconic Harbour Bridge to life in a world-first solar, battery and peer-to-peer powered light show. The six-minute specially-composed Vector Lights opening show sequence wowed local residents watching and listening from different vantage points throughout the city, on land and water, last night.

Philips Lighting announced that its Philips ArenaVision floodlighting will be installed in four South Korean stadiums to be used for ski, snowboard, hockey, skating and short track. When approached by Chicken Charlie’s in San Diego, California, they were asked to help create an innovative LED video display for the new “FryBQ” mobile concession stand that would surely capture the attention of patrons passing by. Needing a solution that could overcome the challenges associated with an outdoor, traveling environment, they called upon Nashville-based PixelFLEX who provided a completely IP65-rated FLEXStorm 6mm LED video system.

The local authorities in the German town of Göppingen have already used several road-lighting projects to make the switch to LED – with more set to follow. The R2L2 range, designed by Thorn for exactly this kind of urban function, is making a real impression in Göppingen with its economic benefits and attractive look. At the same time, Thorn has called on products from the Urba portfolio to provide the perfect lighting solution for the varied requirements of the “Ort der Vielfalt”, a multifunctional leisure complex in the town. 

Osram supports the new headquarters of the cosmetics company Omnicos in the municipality of Bagnolo Cremasco, Italy in achieving a particular splendour. Star architect Beppe Riboli placed his complete trust in Osram as full-service provider for realisation of his lighting concept over a total area of 8,700 square metres. Both the outdoor area and the building itself are equipped with LED lighting from Osram Lighting Solutions. 

E-J Electric Installation Co. (E-J Electric) announced their participation in the construction of phase one of the new Kosciuszko Bridge. The new bridge, a 1.1-mile segment above the industrial Newtown Creek on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, is the first major New York City bridge to open in more than 50 years. The bridge officially opened to traffic with a colorful LED light show designed by E-J Electric.
